Sallie Dowdy Greensboro Sallie Gentry Dowdy, 90, of 203 N. East St., died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. A native of Greene County, Mrs. Dowdy was a daughter of the late John Daniel Gentry and Nettie E. Smith and the widow of Lam Graves Dowdy. She was owner and operator of Dowdy's Grocery Store and a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro and Agape-Philathea Sunday school class. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Greensboro with the Revs. David Key and David Sandridge officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery. A native of Madison, Mrs. Epps was a daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche Williams Gordon and the widow of Homer H. Epps. She was a homemaker, a member of Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church, Good Shephard Sunday school class and United Methodist Women's Association. He was retired from Ford Motor Co.-Dearborn Division, Detroit, where he made his home for 27 years. After retirement, he returned to Athens where he remained a member of the United Auto Workers Association and a member of Whitehall Baptist Church.
