Blackmon Jr. Washington James H. Blackmon Jr., 73, of 508 N. Alexander Ave. died Sunday, July 13, 1997. A native of Washington, Mr. Blackmon was a former co-owner of Blackmon's Store and former director of Washington Loan Bank. He was University of Georgia graduate and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He also was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Georgia Cattleman Association and First United Methodist Church. Graveside services were Tuesday at Resthaven with the Rev. Ryan Seawright officiating. Survivors include his wife, Reunette B. Starks Blackmon; two daughters, Becky Hooton, Washington, and Linda King, Mount Airy, N.C.; a son, James H. Blackmon III, Warrenton; a sister, Norma Alice Wallace, Washington; three brothers, Steve Blackmon and Harris Blackmon, both of Washington, and Dilmus Blackmon, Athens; and six grandchildren. Mr. Blackmon's nephews served as pallbearers. Hopkins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Gladys Lawrence Danielsville Gladys Louise Duncan Lawrence, 87, of Route 3, Box 3182, died Monday, July 14, 1997. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Lawrence was a daughter of the late Johnny G. and Hester Eldora Whistle Duncan and the widow of John Thomas Lawrence. She was a homemaker and a member of Evangelical Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Evangelical Methodist Church with the Revs. Lester Haney, Douglas Duncan and Wayne Beatenbo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Frances Hutcherson, Fort Lamar; two sisters, Lunice Bonds, Commerce, and Oliner Bone, Fort Lamar; and a brother, W.C. Duncan, Commerce. The family is at the residence. Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements. Abby Ledbetter Winder Abby Marie Ledbetter, 16, died Monday, July 14, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Abby was a daughter of Tommy and Kathie Ledbetter of Winder. She attended Winder-Barrow High School and was in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She was a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Anchor Club, Beta Club and Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home with the Revs. Virgil Vickers and Huey Brock officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her boyfriend, Kevin Cronic; a sister, Amy Ledbetter, Winder; and three grandparents, Adelle H. Gracie Rucker Bowman Gracie Mae Wall Rucker, 76, of 241 Grace Road died Saturday, July 12, 1997. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Rucker was a daughter of the late Milton and Jennie Heard Wall and the widow of Rufus Rucker Sr. She was a member of Neomia Court 624 and Ruckers Grove Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, mother board president, usher board member and secretary of several church boards. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ruckers Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. George Tate officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include four daughters, Maeo Graham, Hartford, Conn., Zelma Hudson, Bowman, and Barbara Wilkins and Jennie Jordon, both of Hartwell; three brothers, Clifford Rucker, Comer, and Horace Rucker and Steward Rucker, both of Bowman; 20 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. A native of Anderson County, S.C., Mr. Thompson was a son of the late George H. and Jessie Lee Darby Thompson. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was retired from Service American Vending Machines. He was present commander of American Legion Post 109 and a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Gary McWhorter and Clinton Spence officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia United Methodist Church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Dickerson Thompson; three daughters, Cathy Lands, Tallahassee, Fla., Patti Waters, Anderson, S.C., and Renee Madden, Fountain Inn, S.C.; two sons, Stanley Bruce Thompson, Barnwell, S.C., and Ronnie Thompson, Hartwell; two stepdaughters, Barbara Brown and Carolyn Sanders, both of Hartwell; a stepson, Jimmy Dickerson, Hartwell; four brothers, George Thompson, Charlie Thompson, John Henry "Bobo" Thompson and Bill Thompson, all of Belton, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
