A native of Hart County, Mr. Anthony was a son of the late Tom and Ethel Vickery Anthony. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Anthony and Walter Anthony; two grandsons; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter. He was a retired farmer and retired from Le Tourneau Co. of Toccoa. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the first church Building Committee, which proposed and managed the construction of the first modern sanctuary at Pleasant Grove. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hamby-Weldon Funeral Home, Lavonia, with the Revs. Johnny Ashworth and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens North. Survivors include his wife, Viola Higginbotham Anthony; a daughter, Loretta Herring, Lavonia; two sons, L.T. Anthony, Royston, and Kenneth Don Anthony, Lavonia; three sisters, Ruby Nell Anthony, Lavonia, and Elizabeth Prince and Eveleen Deloach, both of Due West, S.C.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Amelia Barr Macon Amelia Barr, 59, of 2275 Finney Circle, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997. Formerly of Athens, Mrs. Barr was the widow of the late Kenneth Barr. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Faith Presbyterian Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Interment will be in New Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Survivors include cousins, nieces, nephews, and her church family. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, is in charge of arrangements. William Callahan Poudre Canyon, Colo. William Patrick "Pat" Callahan, 50, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997. A native of Fort Jackson, S.C., Mr. Callahan was a son of William Russell Callahan of Palm Beach, Fla., and the late Miriam Savage Callahan. Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Lynn Callahan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, and was a member of Grace on the Poudre. He was a business owner and contractor. A memorial service was held on Friday, Nov. 14. In addition to his father, survivors include his wife, Nancy Studdard Callahan, Winterville; a step-mother, Edwina Callahan, Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, Scott Callahan, Conyers; a brother, Michael "Mike" Dennis Callahan, Poudre Canyon; and a grandson. Kenneth Cox Pensacola, Fla. Kenneth H. Cox, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997. A native of Gwinnett County, Mr. Cox was a son of the late Carl and Ruby Cox of Georgia. He was preceded in death by four brothers, C. H. Cox, Julian Cox, Vivian Cox, and Ed Cox, all of Georgia. Mr. Cox had been a resident of Pensacola since 1968. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and was a federal firefighter. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, the Shriners, Scottish Rites, and the Masonic Lodge. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors. A native of Stephens County, he was a son of John H. (Charles) and Betty Evans Martin. He was employed by Nampac and had served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Martin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bremen, Ga. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Eastanollee Baptist Church, with the Revs. Richard Ivester and Ken Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Marion Merritt Atlanta Marion McHenry Park Merritt, 96, of 3747 Peachtree Road, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997. A native of Greensboro, Mrs. Merritt was a daughter of the late James Billingsly Park and Anna Maria Poullain, and the widow of the late Charles Beverlyn Merritt. She was a homemaker and worked for the federal government in Atlanta. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Greensboro. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, with Father John Via officiating. Burial will be in the Greensboro City Cemetery. Varner, 87, of 747 Clayton St., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997. A native of Wilcox County, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Cornellia Mackey Ash, and the widow of the late Horace G. Varner. She was a homemaker and a member of Bold Springs Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Bold Springs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Heard officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Bernard Varner and William Varner, both of Commerce; two daughters, Sarah Morgan, Marietta, and Mildred Tatum, Commerce; and 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, from 7-9 p.m. today. Marguerite Wimer Athens Marguerite I. Wimer, 92, native of Sharon, Pa., died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997. Mrs. Wimer was the daughter of the late Webster Clark and Louise Youngk Reyner of Tylersburg, Pa. She was a retired educator from the Hickory Twp. School District. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a number of educational organizations. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hillcrest Memorial Park of Sharon, Pa., with the Rev. Myles T. Bradley officiating. A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Wimer will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, Athens, with the Rev. Peggy Little officiating. Mrs. Wimer was the widow of the late Frank O. Wimer and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty W. Bailey and Bruce A. Bailey, Athens; a granddaughter, Debora Bailey-Roth, Huntsville, Ala.; two grandsons, Craig S. Bailey, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Douglas A. Bailey, Raleigh, N.C.; a nephew, George S. She was a member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church for over 30 years. A beloved wife, mother, and sister, she devoted her life to her family.
