A native of Oak Bowery, Ala., Mr. Harris was a son of the late Ollie Higgins and Joseph Pierce Harris. He was a postal worker. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rutledge Methodist Church with the Rev. Bonnie Peters officiating. Burial will be in Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Ethelyn Boyce Harris; two sisters, Coronelia Harris Enloe, Avandale Estate, and Ollie Harris Alford, Roanoke, Va.; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. today at Simmons Funeral Home, Madison. George Henderson Athens George Edwin Henderson ("Ed") was born September 10, 1906, in Kenton, Ohio, to James Scott and Ruthanna Armstrong Henderson. He attended schools in that area and graduated from Ohio State University in 1929 with a degree in agricultural engineering. After graduation, Ed worked with Ohio Edison Power Company in Springfield, Ohio, where he was responsible for the first farm electrification tours and worked with area farmers in the development of the application of electricity to agriculture. In 1932 he was hired as rural engineer by Dayton Power and Light in Wilmington, Ohio, where he developed and patented an electric tank water heater for use in large, uninsulated tanks - the forerunner to the modern day electric water heater. In 1937 he joined the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he headed the Education Section, and after 12 years, resigned as Division Chief of Agricultural Engineering. In 1949 he joined the University of Georgia as Professor of Agricultural Engineering and coordinator for the Southern Association of Agricultural Engineering and Vocational Agriculture, during which tenure he conceived the American Association of Vocational Instructional Materials (AAVIM), which he succeeded in developing to national status; and through which he was instrumental in promoting the theory of text simplification through illustration and producing numerous such text materials - many of which are still recognized and used today. Ed retired, Professor Emeritus, in 1972. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the FFA in 1968; the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio State University in 1973; the National Distinguished Service in Agriculture Education Citation in 1974; and the Massey Ferguson Award in 1979. He has received recognition from the National Safety Council, and is listed in American Men and Women of Science, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Engineering. Ed has also been named to three honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Sigma Phi and the Gridiron. A member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) since 1936, Ed was named a Fellow in 1971 and a Life Fellow in 1973. He has served in many capacities regionally and nationally, and has received recognition from the Georgia Section of ASAE. As a member of Kiwanis, Ed has served as chairman of the Athens Sidewalk Committee for 13 years after his retirement from the university, during which time his efforts led to significant extensions and improvements to sidewalks within the city. Ed has been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder of the church as well as in numerous other capacities. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct 19, 1997, at the First Presbyterian Church, 185 Hancock Ave., Athens, Ga., with Drs. Glen Doak and Joe Barry officiating. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Kenton, Ohio, Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997. Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years, Claribel Cary Henderson of Athens, Ga., and one son, Richard Lewis Henderson, who resides with his wife, Shayne Henderson, in Gatlinburg, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Donald Edwin Henderson. Ed is also survived by his grandchildren, Suzanne Henderson, Patricia Henderson, Steven Henderson, and Chris Henderson, and his step-grandchildren Shari Reagan and Dawn Osborne. Pallbearers will be George Smith, Jim Wren, Joe Williams, Tom Wilfong, Steven Henderson (grandson) and S. Edward Law. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Athens Kiwanis Club. The family is in residence at 150 Valley Road, Athens, Ga., and will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Bernstein Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the AEDF - G.E. Iver Andrew Iverson, 60, of Lakeland Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997. A native of Portland, Maine, Mr. Iverson was a son of the late Emil N. and Elizabeth M. Fitch Iverson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristin Marie Iverson, and a grandson, Andrew Martin. He was a truck driver for Raintree Trucking of Athens after working as a plumber for more than 30 years. He was a former member of the Scarborough, Maine, and Buxton, Maine, fire departments, and was a member of The Church of God Prophecy of Westbrook, Maine. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, Scarborough, Maine. Burial will be in Bay View Cemetery, South Portland, Maine. Survivors include his wife, Orletta Lowe Iverson; two daughters, Dale Deborah DeWitt, Winder, and Coletta Lowe Iverson, Cleveland, Tenn.; five sons, Iver A. Iverson Jr., Kennebunk, Maine, Emil N. Iverson II, Harrison, Ark., Carroll L. Iverson, San Antonio, Texas, and Michael O. Iverson and Darrell E. Iverson, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; a sister, Janice Whitten, Lyman, Maine; a brother, the Rev. Neil Iverson, Raymond, N.H.; an uncle; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mamie L. Stephens Crawfordville Mamie L. Stephens, 88, of 4475 Hillman Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997. A native of Crawfordville, Mrs. Stephens was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Evans. She was a homemaker and a member of Level Hill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Level Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Duggan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Byron Stephens; five daughters, Cornelia Chapman, Roberta Wynn, Virgie Long, Susie McArthur and Sharon Mack; three sons, Thomas Stephens, Robert Stephens and David Stephens; two sisters, Nina Porter and Alice Mango; a brother, Arthur Evans; 30 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A native of Athens, Mr. Tucker was a son of Geneva E. Broch of Athens and the late Albert S. Tucker. He attended the University of Georgia and was self-employed as a photographer. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a son, Peter Tucker, Washington, D.C.; a sister, Delores Tucker, San Francisco; two brothers, Ken Harper, Thomasville, and Charles Harper, Decatur; and a grandmother, Mae R.
