A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, Mr. Elder was a son of Robert Daniel "Jack" Elder Sr. and Elizabeth Mathews Elder of Watkinsville. Educated in Oconee County as a youth, Mr. Elder was very active in the youth programs of the Watkinsville Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts of America. He earned the rank of Life Scout and was awarded the God and Country award. Mr. Elder was a second-generation owner of Oconee Well Drillers of Watkinsville and was also owner of North Georgia Water Systems. He owned and renovated several commercial rental properties in Watkinsville. Mr. Elder was a member of several state and national water industry associations, the Athens Elks Club, Touchdown Club and Ashford Memorial Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, West, Bogart, with the Revs. Tommy Cochran, Frank Johnson and Richard Hoard officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Memorial Park. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife of 33 years, Joy Thomas Elder; a daughter, Dawn Luree Elder, Atlanta; a son, Robert Daniel "Dan" Elder III, Watkinsville; two brothers, Courtney "Cokey" Mathews Elder, Statham, and John Calvin Elder, Watkinsville; three sisters, Mary Elder Harness, Athens, and Ann Elder Evans and Flo Elder Wilkes, both of Watkinsville; and two nieces and nine nephews. Miriam Few Arnoldsville Miriam Turner Few, 88, of Route 1, Box 258, died Saturday, July 19, 1997. A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Few was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mamie Creighton Marable and the widow of Luther Turner and Reese Few. She was a homemaker and attended Corinth Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard McFall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include a son, Wayne Turner, Arnoldsville; three sisters, Carol Coleman, Bishop, Hazel Barnett, Watkinsville, and Alma Terry, Florida; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. Kenneth Hart Rome Kenneth Jeremiah Hart, 79, of 103 Glen Ridge Road died Friday, July 18, 1997. A native of Pittsfield, Mass., Mr Hart was a son of the late Jerry Alfred and Mary Newbery Hart. He was preceded in death by a son, David Allen Hart, and a daughter, Janet Eleen Hart. He was employed by General Electric for 44 years and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the General Electric Century Club, the Monogram Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father James Miceli officiating. Survivors include his wife, Helen Siek Hart; two sons, Robert Hart, Athens, and Paul Hart, Macon; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Thelma Mauldin Watkinsville Thelma White Mauldin, 83, of 2000 McRee Gin Road died Friday, July 18, 1997. A native of Hall County, Mrs. Mauldin was a daughter of the late Earley and Mollie Hendrix White and the widow of Paul Mauldin. She was a homemaker and a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Ila Dean Scarborough, 95, of 2143 Scarborough Road died Friday, July 18, 1997. A native of Danielsville, Mrs. Scarborough was a daughter of the late Willis and Henrietta Scarboro Dean. She was a homemaker and a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, Danielsville. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. L.E. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Williams was a son of Lois Whitehead Williams of Toccoa and the late Thomas Fulton Williams. He was a special agent with the U.S. Treasury Department for 17 years and an Army veteran. He was a member of the National Association of Treasury Agents, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Retirees, VFW Post 4346 and Forest Hills Baptist Church, Florence, Ala. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Revs. Claude Smithmier and Jarrett Ragan officiating. Burial will be in Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
