A native of Jackson County, she was a daughter of Ella Virginia Weir Whitehead, Athens, and the late Willie B. Whitehead. She worked for Flowers Inc. Balloons and was a member of Corner Stone Christian Church, Statham. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Blake Foster officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder. In addition to her mother, survivors include a son, R. Dennis Baker, Athens; a daughter, Donna R. Baker, Athens; two sisters, Virginia Flores, Athens, and Brenda Sue Carithers, Nashville; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Robert Dougherty, Danny Bales, Richard Tiller, Larry Landrums, Bob Burton and Stacy Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Flowers Inc. Balloons. Gene Brown Hartwell Robert Eugene "Gene" Brown, 70, of 3370 Elberton Highway died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997. A native of Hart County, Mr. Brown was a son of the late John H. and Josie Blackwell Brown and stepson of the late Lona Brown. Mr. Brown was retired from American Freight Systems and was currently a school bus driver for the Hart County School System. He was a life member of the Local 728 Teamsters Union, a Mason and Shriner, and coached Little League baseball. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Meeks and Herman Wike officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Long Brown; two sons, R.E. "Bobby" Brown, Hartwell, and Mark A. Brown, Crawfordville; two brothers, John Alton Brown, Marble Hill, and Douglas William Brown, Anderson, S.C.; three sisters, Millie McCullough, Anderson, S.C., and Mrs. Johnny Cleveland and Virginia Jones, both of Hartwell; and a grandson. Lewis Clemmons Greensboro Lewis Edmond Clemmons, 76, of 1561 Indian Woods Road died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997. A native of Florida, Mr. Clemmons was the widower of Betty Jean Works Clemmons. He was a retired truck driver from Consolidated Freightway. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Best officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include a son, Lewis Clemmons Jr., Greensboro; two brothers, Frank Clemmons and Charles Clemmons, both of Charleston, S.C.; a granddaughter; and nieces and nephews. Simmons Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements. Lee Hayley Auburn, Ala. Lee Reede Hayley died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997. Mr. Hayley was a student athlete at Auburn University from 1949 to 1952, an assistant coach at Auburn from 1963 to 1964, and athletic director from 1972 to 1981. Mr. Hayley coached at McNeese State College, Lake Charles, La., and at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He retired as associate athletic director at the University of Georgia. Mr. Hayley was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church and a former trustee of First United Methodist Church, Athens. He was a member of the Auburn Beautification Council, the Boy Scouts and the Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Football Letterman's Club and the Auburn University Alumni Association. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Auburn United Methodist Church Founders Chapel with Dr. George Mathison and the Rev. Charles Britt officiating. Survivors include his wife, Floyd Redd Hayley; two sons, Thomas Matthieu Hayley and Richard Redd Hayley; two brothers, Benjamin Lee Hayley, Birmingham, and Samuel Benjamin Hayley, Hueytown; and seven grandchildren. Eddie Ard officiating. Survivors include two sons, Neil Haymaker and Michael Haymaker, both of Athens; and three sisters, Lilias Miller, Margaret Christison and Mary Jamieson, all of Scotland. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include a son, Harrison Roger Jr., Statham; two daughters, Cora Lee Bailey, Statham, and Jacquline Roshell Miller, Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
