A native of Habersham County, Mr. Black was a son of the late Eunice Popham and Earl Black Sr. He served 32 years as a Marine Corps staff sergeant and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Toccoa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4346, American Legion Thunderbolt Post 36 and the Association for the Advancement of Retired People. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitfield Funeral Home, Baldwin, with the Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by a Marine Corps Honor Guard. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Louba Riker, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Latrelle Wilson, El Cajon, Calif., and Katherine Sasuta, Milford, Conn.; a brother, Earl Black Jr., Chamblee; a grandchild; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Annell Jones Jefferson Annell Newton Jones, 89, died Saturday, July 19, 1997. A native of Jefferson, Mrs. Jones was the widow of Clyde Jones Sr. and was preceded in death by two children. She was a member of Paradise African Methodist Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Paradise AME Church with the Rev. J.B. Lester officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Nell Sheppard and Elizabeth Leigh, both of Jefferson, and Betty Pope, Athens; a son, William Jones, Jefferson; a grandson raised in the home, Clinton Jones, Boston; 10 other grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mason Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements. Dean Lindholm Nokesville, Va. Dean Allen Lindholm, 40, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997. A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mr. Lindholm was a son of retired Col. Allen T. and Pamela N. Lindholm of Nokesville, Va. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he was captain of the equestrian team. He served seven years in the Army and was awarded an Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters. After retiring, he earned a master's degree in environmental biology (wetlands management) at George Mason University in 1989 and was pursuing a doctorate degree at the University of Georgia's Institute of Ecology. He was a major in the Army Reserve, vice president of the Fairfax, Va., Audubon Society, and was active politically and professionally in numerous environmental organizations including The Nature Conservancy, Greenpeace and the Environmental Defense Fund. Graveside services with full military honors will be July 30 in Arlington National Cemetery. Janice Onion Bogart Janice Dunagan Onion, 86, of 1660 Jennings Mill Road died Sunday, July 20, 1997. A native of Georgia, Mrs. Onion was the managing editor and executive secretary of the magazine for the Washington Restaurant Association in Washington, D.C., for more than 20 years. She was a member and past president of the Salvation Army Auxiliary Board, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile, the Belle Haven Women's Club and First Christian Church, all of Alexandria, Va. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery.
