A native of Franklin County, Mr. Bennett was a son of the late Thomas and Neta Elizabeth Haynes Bennett and the widow of Reba Knight Bennett. He was retired from Allied Foods. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Douglas Duncan and David Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include three daughters, Eloise Alewine, Jefferson, Shirley Johnson Sexton, Danielsville, and Ann Wood, Commerce; four sons, Claude Lee Bennett Jr., Chula Vista, Edward Bennett, Jefferson, and Jimmy Bennett and Sherman Bennett, both of Commerce; three sisters, Virginia Bennett, Annie Bell Scogin and Gladys Waters, all of Commerce; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of Shirley Sexton, 2351 Allen Road, Danielsville, and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home. Joe Edwards Winterville Joe B. Edwards, 81, of 113 Oakmont Place died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Girssom S. and Addie Elizabeth Dixon Edwards. He was former manager of the Department of Veterans Services in Elbert County before moving to St. Simons Island a number of years ago, and was a manager of the Department of Veterans Services in Glynn County until his retirement. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elberton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the mausoleum of Forest Hills Memorial Park, Elberton, with the Rev. Barbara Engelbrecht officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum. Survivors include his wife, Beth Safrit Edwards, Winterville; a daughter, Jane E. Cleveland, Winterville; a sister, Elizabeth E. Smith, Elberton; a granddaughter; and nieces and nephews. Luther English Toccoa Luther Fletcher English, 74, of Mill Street died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997. A native of Stephens County, Mr. English was a son of the late Raleigh and Nannie Hooper English. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Entombment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. Carolyn McGovern Chicago Carolyn McDaniel McGovern, formerly of Winder, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997. Mrs. McGovern was a daughter of the late B.B. and Disma H. Phillips. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Kevin Page officiating. Survivors include her husband, James McGovern; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Bob Hohmann; a sister, Syble Clark, Riverdale; two brothers, Buddy Phillips, Auburn, and Stanley Phillips, Winder; and a granddaughter, Serena McGovern Hohmann, Illinois. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ollie Mae Shumake Jefferson Ollie Mae Shumake, 87, of 107 Institute St. died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997. A native of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Shumake was a daughter of the late Clarence Marvin and Ruby Lee Boyd Aldridge and the widow of Gordon Shumake Sr. She was preceded in death by three sons, Marvin Shumake, Gordon Shumake Jr. and Donald Shumake. She was a homemaker and a member of Galilee Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Hillier Duke officiating. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. Mack 'Bud' Smith Cornelia Mack "Bud" Smith, 56, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late William Mack and Sallie Anne Bramblett Smith. He was formerly employed with the Clarkesville Police Department, was employed as a deputy sheriff with the Habersham County Sheriff's Office and was an EMT with the Habersham County Ambulance Service. He was a past member of Georgia Peace Officer's Association and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Morris and Clyde Garrison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
