Broad St. died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997. A native of Barrow County, Pastor Arnold was a son of the late Thomas and Pamela Waters Arnold. A Navy veteran, he was pastor and a member of Thyatira Community Chapel and a member of Victory Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Victory Baptist Church with the Revs. Swain Cochran and Richard James officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Winifred G. Arnold; a daughter, Elaine McCoy, Jefferson; a son, Pastor Bill Arnold, Griffin; two sisters, Hazel Jones, Jefferson, and Gladys Garner, Comer; a brother, Lester Arnold, Jefferson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements. Mary Colson Winder Mary Colson, 79, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997. A native of Haralson County, Mrs. Colson was the widow of G.L. Colson. She was owner and operator of Colson Hardeware and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at First UMC with the Rev. Larry Rary officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Colson, Marietta; a son, Greg Colson, Marietta; and two grandchildren. Dickerson, 65, of 10627 Royston Road died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997. A native of Madison County, Mr. Dickerson was a son of the late Luther and Pearl Hammond Dickerson. An Army veteran, he was a retired painter at the University of Georgia and of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Bethel M Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mary Baugh Dickerson; three daughters, Frances Reno, Gail Nelms and Shirley Fowler, all of Danielsville; a son, Earl Dickerson, Danielsville; a sister, Frances Farmer, Anderson, S.C.; a brother, Neapolean Dickerson, Greer, S.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family is at the residence. Julia Eastman McMinnville, Tenn. Julia Frances Eastman, 80, of 402 N. Spring St. died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997. A native of Virginia, Mrs. Eastman was a daughter of the late Julia Kiernan and Dr. Charles W. Henderson and the widow of Donald Roger Eastman Jr. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph's College, a member of the National Adviser Committee for Aeronautics and a homemaker. Charles Haynie Toccoa Charles Mack Haynie, 64, of Cherry Lane died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Haynie was a son of James Haynie of Toccoa and the late Elizabeth Carter Harper Haynie. An Air Force veteran, he was a supervisor with Vermont American, owner of Haynie's Paint and Body Shop for 20 years, a custom knife maker, a member of Toccoa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4346, a member and past exalted ruler of the Toccoa Elks Lodge and past district deputy of Elks. He was of the Baptist faith. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Roger Elrod officiating. Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Nan McEnaney Haynie; two sons, Mike Haynie, Toccoa, and Doug Haynie, Jefferson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Grady Higginbotham Elberton Grady Cleveland Higginbotham, 81, of 1639 Anderson Highway died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Higginbotham was a son of the late Ace and Carrie Beasley Higginbotham. He was a member of Bethel "E" Baptist Church and was retired from the granite industry. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Rand Freer and Donald Mulkey officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Smith, Fortsonia Community, Elberton, Joyce Alewine, Greenwood, S.C., and Martha Ann Booth, Elberton; four sons, William A. "Bill" Higginbotham, Robert C. "Bob" Higginbotham and Grady M. Higginbotham, all of Elberton, and Amos H. Higginbotham, Grandy, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Alan "Pete" Higginbotham, Robert Higginbotham, John Alewin, Stacy Smith, Glenn Higginbotham and Travis Higginbotham. The family is at the residence. Dr. John Hobson Athens Dr. John Lewis Hobson died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997. Dr. Hobson, a native of Memphis, Tenn., came to Brunswick in 1965 where he practiced internal medicine for 25 years. He served on the Hospital Authority in Brunswick and was chief of staff at the Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital. He was a president of the Glynn County Medical Society and served on the Vestry of St. Marks Episcopal Church. His undergraduate pre-medical training was at Harvard University and the University of The South at Sewanee. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt Medical School. Dr. Hobson served his internship at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and his residency in internal medicine at Yale in New Haven. He was then drafted into the Korean War and was stationed at hospitals in Texas, Kentucky, and at the naval air station in Jacksonville, Fla. After the war, he practiced medicine in Memphis, Tenn., before coming to Brunswick. He is survived by a son, John Lewis Hobson Jr., Athens; a daughter, Virginia Hobson Watson, Brunswick; a brother, Joel J. Hobson, Memphis; and three granddaughters. Samuel Jordan Sr. Macon Samuel David Jordan Sr., 64, of 3240 Stratford Drive died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997. A native of Monticello, Mr. Jordan was an Army veteran of the Korean War, retired from Robins Air Force Base and a deacon at New Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum. Survivors include his wife, Rozalin Daniel Jordan; two daughters, Glenda Yvette Jordan, Macon, and Alicia Maria Jordan, Decatur; two sons, Samuel David Jordan Jr., Raleigh, N.C., and Kendall Ulysses Jordan, Macon; two sisters, Opal Simmons, Monticello, and Virginia Phillips, Mattapan, Mass.; a brother, James Jordan, Atlanta; and three grandchildren. The family is at the residence. Hutchings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Willie Morrow Toccoa Willie Nichols Morrow, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997. A native of Fort Payne, Ala., Mrs. Morrow was a daughter of the late William N. and Florence McSpadden Nichols and the widow of Woolsey Lanning Morrow. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and received her master's degree from the University of Chicago and Tulane University. She served as a case worker at Shelter of Arms in Atlanta and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Saint Matthias Episcopal Church. She also had served as director of American Red Cross and director of welfare for many years. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Toccoa Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Saint Matthias Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Buice officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Myers, Cumming; a son, Allen Morrow, Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
