Brown Athens Martha R. Brown, 83, of 184 S. Milledge Ave. died Sunday, July 27, 1997. A native of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred R. Branch and Ruth Abercrombie. She was a retired florist and a member of Ashford Memorial Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Watkinsville City Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Hoard officiating. Survivors include two sisters, Amanda Short and Daisy Roberts, both of Athens. Memorials may be made to the Watkinsville City Cemetery Fund. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Sybil P. Brown Bogart Sybil P. Brown, 83, of 2000 Atlanta Highway died Sunday, July 27, 1997. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Johnny and Aslee Kirk Porter and the widow of Luther "Pop" Brown. She was preceded in death by two sons, Orell Brown and Eugene Brown and a grandson, Freddie Brown. She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church, Winder. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. William Atha officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Audrey Rowden and Linda Fouche, both of Bogart; a brother, Quilla Porter, Statham; three sisters, Irene Hawk, Harpersville, Ala., Johnnie Mae Dooley, Covington, and Lucille Baker, Statham; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Paul T. Cheek Sr. Hoschton Paul T. Cheek Sr., 76, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Cheek was retired from the Maintenance Department at the center of Disease Control in Lawrenceville. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Buford. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs., R.T. Parks and Ricky Thasher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the chapel at 1:30. Survivors include two sons, Paul T. Cheek Jr. and Dwight D. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Magner was a son of Mary Allison Magner of Columbus and the late George J. Magner II. He was a graduate of Columbus College and did graduate work at Auburn University. He was a retired research technician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Russell Research Center in Athens and a member of First Christian Church. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Union Christian Cemetery in Watkinsville with the Revs. Bruce Quiggle and Keith Weekly officiating. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Hazel Nichols Magner, three daughters, Mary Ann Hall, Watkinsville, Pamela Coles, Danielsville, and Angie Davis, Bainbridge; a sister, Mary Kirkland, Fern Park, Fla.; two brothers, Lawrence Magner and Steve Magner, both of Columbus; and four grandchildren. Paul Nadler Athens Colonel Paul Nadler died July 25, 1997. Col. Nadler was born May 6, 1917, in Philadelphia, son of the late Louis and Mary M. Nadler. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and, in 1942, entered the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet. He graduated from flying school at Albany January 1943 as a 2nd Lt. He was in combat in the South Pacific, and after 71 missions, returned to duty in the United States. He was an alumnus of Auburn University and the Oak Ridge School of Nuclear Reactor Technology. At Auburn, he was elected into the honorary engineering society, Tau Beta Pi. Col. Nadler was awarded The Legion of Merit and retired from the United States Air Force in 1962. He later retired from the Missile and Space Division of General Electric at Valley Forge, Pa. He has resided in Athens since 1985. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Elsie Hartmann; a daughter, Marlo Wiggans, Athens; a son, Bruce Nadler, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, James Nadler, Shipbottom, N.J.; four grandsons, Paul, Scott, and Keith Wiggans, all of Athens, and Brett Nadler, Sacramento, Calif.; and a niece, Joan Lange, Shipbottom, N.J. Services will be held Tuesday, at 4 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church and burial will be Friday at 3 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery.
