A native of Barrow County, Mr. Elrod was a son of the late George H. and Jessie L. Elrod and the widower of Annelle H. Elrod. He was a retired truck driver. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Rary officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Survivors include a daughter, Becky Mitchell, Winder; two sons, Lee Elrod, Moultrie, and Sam Elrod, Hoschton; a sister, Nell Bethel, Winder; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Winder. William Ezzard Tiger Retired Lt. Col. William Trimble Ezzard, 85, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997. A native of Crawfordville, Lt. Col. Ezzard was a son of Henry and Loulie Ezzard and the widower of Ruth Arrendale Ezzard. He was preceded in death by a son, William T. Ezzard Jr. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1934, he taught in Fannin County and served as assistant county agent in Rabun County. An Army veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart while serving in North Africa during World War II. From 1950 to 1953 he was an ROTC instructor at UGA. He retired from the Army in 1966 and returned to Vietnam as an agricultural adviser. He served on the Rabun County Memorial Hospital Authority, was a member of the Clayton Lions Club and the Farm Bureau and served as supervisor of the Blue Ridge Mountain Soil and Water Conservation District. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Clayton. Burial will be in Tiger Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Barksdale, Frederick, Md., and Lucy Bartlett, Gainesville; two sons, John Ezzard and Henry Ezzard, both of Tiger; a foster daughter, Jane Chang, New Jersey; a brother, George Ezzard, Cooleemee, N.C.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A native of Blowing Rock, N.C., Mr. Hollars was a son of Earlean Hollars and the late McKeever Hollars. He served in the Marine Corps for many years and was a self-employed painting contractor. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard McFall and Hilton Purvis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Matthews was a daughter of the late John Easton and Ellen Wilhite Daniel. She was a homemaker and a member of Elberton First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Doves Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Marshall Tribble officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Shelton, Youngsville, N.C., and Andrea Stadler, Richmond, Va.; a son, Bob Matthews, Hartwell; two brothers, David Daniel, Lookout Mountain, and John Daniel, Elberton; and eight grandchildren. Berry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Norene Nelms Athens Norene Nelms, 91, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Nelms lived most of her life in Clarke County. She was a homemaker and a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Elliott and Howard Greer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Jerry Perry Statham Jerry Mell Perry, 68, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Perry was a son of the late Cares and Eula D. Perry and was preceded in death by a son, Michael Perry. He was a retired self-employed plumber. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Bud McDonald and Paul Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. Connie Smith Cartersville Connie M. Smith, 58, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997. A native of Augusta, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of Carl O. Goodwin of Cartersville and the late Elsie Williams Smith. She recently had moved to Cartersville after living in Kennesaw for more than 30 years. She enjoyed painting and was a member of Greers Chapel Baptist Church. She was a retired schoolteacher, a graduate of Clark College in Atlanta and a member of Bethel Community Baptist Church, St. Petersburg.
