A native of Hall County, Mr. Armour was a son of the late Royster and Nancy Smith Armour. An Army veteran, he was a graduate of North Georgia Technical Institute. He was employed by Potter and Brumfield of Gainesville for 27 years and was retired after eight years from Peachtree Doors and Windows Inc. He attended Living Mission United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at B.C. Grant Baptist Church with the Revs. Woodrow Hix and Paul Morris officiating. Graveside services will be in the church cemetery conducted by the Grant Reeves Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7720 Honor Guard. Barner, 89, formerly of Athens, died Friday, July 25, 1997. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Barner was a daughter of the late Harry G. and Ethel M. Wallace. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane W. Forehand. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Drake University, was a published poet and was active in social work. She was a past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Dames member of the MOLLUS Society, a gold certificate recipient of the Century Travel Club, a member of the Caledonian Club of Florida West and a member of Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, John L. Barner, M.D.; a son, John L. Barner Jr., Melbourne, Australia; and three grandchildren, Elesa W. Barner, Christopher B. Forehand and Margaret A. Forehand. Edward Beacham Jr. Athens Edward Beacham Jr., 82, of 347 Oglethorpe Ave. formerly of Elberton, died Monday, July 28, 1997. A native of Lowell, N.C., Mr. Beacham was a son of the late Bell Wansley and Edward Beacham Sr. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired merchant and of the Methodist faith. Harry R.F. Collins Sr. Columbus Harry R.F. "Dick" Collins Sr., 78, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. A native of Athens, Mr. Collins was a son of the late Morris W.H. and Eula Thomas Collins and the widower of Mary L. Collins. He received his bachelor's degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech and was a Navy veteran of World War II, having retired with the rank of lieutenant commander from the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., where he served as a district manager of the Southwest Georgia office. He was a member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church Elder Board, Valley Seniors Golf Association, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and past treasurer of the Community Presbyterian Council. Fanning Sr., 91, of 397 Parkway Drive died Saturday, July 26, 1997. A native of Wilkes County, Dr. Fanning was a son of the late John William and Gertrude Harrison Fanning. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Georgia, with which he was associated for 50 years, as a student, an extension agent, faculty member and administrator. After his retirement, he was instrumental in creating the Leadership Georgia program. He served on dozens of state government, business and education advisory groups, and was president of the Georgia Planning Council and chairman of the Governor's Advisory Council on Environmental Affairs, and headed the executive committee of the State Technical Services Program. His many awards include the Faculty Service Award, the Abraham Baldwin Award and the Blue Key Award from UGA. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Athens First Baptist Church with Drs. Jon Appleton and Howard Giddens officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. Survivors include a daughter, Sibyle Jenks, Great Falls, Va.; a son, J.W. She was a retired civil service clerk at Warner Robins Air Force Base and a charter member of Houston Lake Baptist Church, Perry. Grady Horne, 71, died Friday, July 25, 1997. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Horne was a son of the late Mary Louise Parker and James Grady Horne Sr. He received his doctorate degree from Tulane University and taught at the University of Kentucky before coming in 1959 to the University of Georgia, where he was professor emeritus of the mathematics department 1969-1974. He served in the Navy and taught at the U.S. Naval Preparatory School, and was a member of the American Mathematical Society and the Georgia Ornithological Society.
