A native of Homer, Mr. Ayers was a son of the late Bill and Hepsie McDuffie Ayers and the widower of Lois Turpin Ayers. He was a farmer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial will be in Webbs Creek Cemetery. Survivors include eight sons, David Ayers and Larry Ayers, both of Commerce, Harold Ayers, Danielsville, Leroy Ayers, Baldwin, and Luther Ayers, Marvin Ayers, Lamar Ayers and Ralph Ayers, all of Homer; three daughters, Evelyn Blalock, Danielsville; and Betty Grizzle and Lucy Shore, both of Commerce; 28 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Lizzie Drake Comer Lizzie Belle Parham Drake, 80, of Route 2, Box 206, died Saturday, June 28, 1997. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Drake was a daughter of the late Emory A. and Allie Booth Parham and the widow of Loyd Joe Drake. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Johnson and Peggy Jean Drake, and a son, L.G. Drake. She was a homemaker and a member of Vineyards Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Vineyards Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Dewitt Waters, Tom Dial and Calvin Coile officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Amanda Holmes Athens Amanda Dabney Holmes, 17, of 397 Boulevard died Saturday, June 28, 1997. A native of Barrow County, Miss Holmes was a daughter of Robert and Carole Morgan Holmes of Athens. She was a student at Clarke Central High School, where she was a member of the marching band, jazz band, symphonic band and tennis team. She was employed by Blockbuster Video and had served as a lifeguard at the University of Georgia Ramsey Center. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship church with the Rev. Terre Balof officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Eastview Cemetery, Zebulon. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Massey was a son of the late William and Susie Massey and the widower of Albina Watson Massey and Annie Rea Sims Massey. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Oliver Pruitt Homer Oliver Clyde Pruitt, 56, of 275 Oscar Rucker Road died Saturday, June 28, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Pruitt was a son of Gladys Jones Pruitt of Homer and the late S. Clyde Pruitt. He was preceded in death by a niece, Cindy Pruitt. He was a truck driver for NAPA and a member of Homer Baptist Church. Joseph Marion Schmittou, 79, died Friday June 27, 1997, at Veterans Hospital in Augusta. A native of Waynesboro, Tenn., Master Sgt. Schmittou was a son of Naomi Johns Schmittou of Nashville, Tenn., and the late Raybon Schmittou. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Jo and Linda Lee Schmittou. He was retired from the Marine Corps with 30 years of service and from the Clarke County Sheriff's Department with 20 years of service. He served in World War II with the 1st Marine Division and also in the Korean War. He had several medals, citations, campaign ribbons and unit commendations. He received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Colbert Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Colbert Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Fuller and Mark Fite officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
