A native of Hart County, she was a daughter of the late Karl Eugene and Sophia Randall Maret, and the widow of John D. Akin Jr. Mrs. Akin was retired from Northeast Georgia Bank in Lavonia after 35 years of service. She was a volunteer with the Ty Cobb Healthcare Ladies Auxiliary, and was a member of the Lavonia Chapter of the U.D.C. and the Lavonia Women's Club. Mrs. Akin was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church, where she was a volunteer in the nursery department for many years. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and the Revs. Richard Bielski and Bobby Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens North. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Dilworth, Royston, and Kathy Gillespie, Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Doug Akin, Watkinsville; seven sisters, Marguerite LeCroy, Henrietta Mabry, and Sue Maret, all of Lavonia, Kathleen Jackson, Royston, Joe Nix, Hamilton, Elaine Gibbs, Dunwoody, and Bette Cowles, Marietta; two brothers, Randall Maret and Charles Maret, both of Dalton; and eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Almond, a native of Elbert County, was the son of the late Robert and Sally Nelms Almond. He was a retired carpenter. His wife was the late Nancy Ann Moon Almond. Sally Bates Elberton Sally Mae Slater Bates, 95, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997. A native of Hart County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Annie Ray Slater and the widow of John W. Bates. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Mack Bates; a daughter, Louise B. Bailey; and a great-grandson, John Tucker. She was a homemaker and a member of Reed Creek Baptist Church. Lawrence Costa Columbus Lawrence Henry Costa, 85, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997. A native of Athens, Mr. Costa was a son of the late Eleanora C. and Leo Costa. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1934, where he was a member and letterman of the UGA basketball and baseball teams. He was a member of the Gridiron Society, president of the Columbus Transportation Company and retired from Georgia Crown as general manager. He was a director of the Boy's Club of Columbus, a board member of the Country Club of Columbus, a member and director of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus since 1943, and a member of the Quarterback Club. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, with Father Gerard Schreck officiating. Private burial services will be at Parkhill Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Zenith Sisk Costa; a daughter, Harriette Costa Cavender, Claxton; a brother, Leo Costa, Atlanta; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A native of Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late E.F. and Arah Lou Cothran Chastain, and the widow of J.H. Davison. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lamar and Ellis Davison; a daughter, Betty Ann Davison; a sister, Eula Mae Harris, and three brothers, Roy Chastain, Gene Chastain, and Lee Cothran. She was a homemaker and a member of Middle River Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Annie Jane Kemp London. She was preceded in death by a son, Arbin Dobbs.Mrs. Dobbs owned and operated Dobbs Flowers for about 30 years, and was a past member of FTD and an honorary life member of the Georgia Florist Association. She was a member of Toccoa Congregational Holiness Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Toccoa Congregational Church, with the Revs. Robert Magness and Paul Garrison officiating. A native of Banks County, Mr. Rylee was a son of the late Grove H. Rylee Sr. and Buris (Lewallen) Rylee. Mr. Rylee was a cattle farmer and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. William Sellers Greensboro William Tue Sellers, 78, of 5240 Madison Hwy., died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Sellers was a son of the late Bratcher Sellers and Esther Morgan. He was a lifelong resident of Greene County. He was a retired Staff Sargeant in the U.S. Air Force, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was the former owner and operator of Park and Trot Country Store, and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. Mr. Sellers was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Greshamville.
