Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cades Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon A. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Black was a son of the late Cal and Dolly Whitman Black. He was a retired truck driver for Temple & Ayers Gin Co. and was a member of Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hicks Funeral Home with the Revs. Levy Moore and Wayne Durden officiating. Burial will be in Coldwater United Methodist Church Cemetery. A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Callaway was a daughter of Joseph Curry of Aiken, S.C., and the late Novella Hayes Curry. Leroy Haynes Sr. Athens Leroy Haynes Sr., 71, of 134 Herman St. died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Haynes was a son of the late Aaron Haynes and Georgia Cross Haynes. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Haynes. He was a retired custodian at the University of Georgia and a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Stephens. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thankful Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwight Sims and Frank Dillard officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home. George Martin Athens George Thomas Martin died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. A native of Hamilton County, Tenn. Mr. Martin was a son of Gladys Mesengale Williamson and the late George Martin. He had lived in Athens for the past eight years and was retired from the cellular biology department at the University of Georgia and Niagra Community College in Sanborn, N.Y. He was active in civic groups in the Niagra Falls area and in Athens, and was committed to many environmental concerns and the care and protection of the Athens Community. He was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, serving as president in 1993-94. Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church with the Revs. George Tolleson and Terre Balof officiating. Burial will be in Smokey Mountain National Park. A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Meeler was a daughter of Lucille Parsons Reynolds of Madison and the late Angles J. Reynolds and the widow of Marvin Meeler. She was a secretary. Dorothy Fagan Sinkey, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997. A native of Latrobe, Mrs. Sinkey was a daughter of the late Charles and Sally Gregory Fagan and the widow of Joseph F. Sinkey. She was a retired owner and operator of the former Latrobe Restaurant and was a member of Holy Family Church and its Rosary Altar Society. Margie Sterken Athens Margie Sterken, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. A native of Inwood, Iowa, Mrs. Sterken was a graduate of Michigan State University. She taught on the elementary and high school levels in Inwood and spend most of her life in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she worked for the state and federal government. She moved to Athens in 1981. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rosedale Memorial Park in Grand Rapids, Mich. Survivors include a niece, Mary Payne, Atlanta; a nephew, Robert Sterken, Mansfield, Ohio; a grandniece, Karen Payne; and four grandnephews, Michael Payne, Jeffery Payne, Todd Sterken and Scott Sterken.
