A native of Hall County, Mrs. Brooks was a daughter of the late Melvin Joseph and Mary Emaline Witsel Patton. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Brooks. She was a housewife and member of First Baptist Church, Athens. Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jon Appleton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, Roland David Brooks Jr.; two sons, David Brooks, Athens, and Tommy Brooks, Winder; four sisters, Polly Patton and Betty Davis, Pendergrass, Ruby Turner, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Grace Sexton, Talmo; four brothers, Bobby Patton and Billy Patton, Gainesville; Garnett Patton, Pendergrass, and Dewitt Patton, Talmo; six grandchildren, Bo Brooks, Brad Taylor, Elizabeth Brooks, Erica Brooks, Brandi Shepard, and Beth Rider; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jewell Carr Toccoa Jewell Jordan Carr, 86, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998. A native of Hot Springs, Ark., Mrs. Carr was a daughter of the late Dan and Mahaley Chitwood Godwin and was married first to the late Inman William Jordan and then to the late Lloyd Carr. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Largo, Fla. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mike Bell officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jordan Merck, Sautee; a son, Jerry William Jordan, Toccoa; a brother, M.L. Godwin, Arlington, Texas; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Roscoe Colbert Athens Roscoe Colbert, 76, of 154 Fernbanks Court died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998. A native of Madison County, Mr. Colbert was a son of the late Hattie Colbert. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Colbert Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Colbert. Annie Mae Etheridge Elberton Annie Mae Griffin Etheridge, 94, of 1530 Country Club Road died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Etheridge was a daughter of the late Andrew Griffin and Ella Craft Griffin and was the widow of J. Thomas Etheridge. She was retired from Hartwell County as a seamstress, was a homemaker, and was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church and the Alathean Sunday School Class. Services will be 3 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell, with the Revs. Charlie Wilson and Gary Purvis officiating. Burial will be in Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Mack Hearn Carnesville Mack Hearn, 81, of 6600 Stone Bridge Road died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Hearn was a son of the late George and Beulah Ertzberger. He retired from the Franklin County Road Department as superintendent after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the 101st Battalion and served in the Pacific conflict during World War II, including the Philippine Liberation. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Ginn Funeral Home with the Revs. Roger McCoy and Doug Burns officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens. The family is at the residence. Annie Rose Hendricks Washington Annie Rose Pittman Hendricks, 79, of 255 Wrightsboro Road died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998. A native of Taliaferro County, Mrs. Hendricks was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Annie Pittman. She was retired owner/operator of Hendricks Florist, Washington, and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Washington Garden Club, and Pilot Club. Services will be 3 p.m. today at Resthaven Cemetery with the Rev. Chip Wilson officiating. Survivors include her husband B.H. Hendricks Jr.; and a son, Bob Hendricks, McRae. Randall Horne Carnesville Randall Bernard Horne, 73, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Odessa P. Horne. Branch Howe Jr., 74, of 130 Bishop Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in Nairobi, Kenya. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Grace Mann Howe and Henry Branch Howe. Dr. Howe served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 100th Infantry Division and was an active member of the Century Association. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Emory University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa honorary society, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Howe was a Professor emeritus of Microbiology at the University of Georgia. He served in the department from 1957 to 1990. He also served as an associate dean of the Graduate School from 1981 to 1990. Prior to coming to the University, he taught at Union College in Barboursville, Kentucky, and at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Howe was past president of the Georgia Ornithological Society and compiler of the Audubon Christmas Bird Count for Athens. He also was past president of the Athens Torch Club and past chairman of the University of Georgia Retirees Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a communion steward. He also was past president of the Georgia Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the Georgia Chapter of Sigma Xi, and the Georgia Academy of Science. He is survived by his wife Anne Haden Howe and by three children, Stephen Howe and Alan Howe of Atlanta and Barbara Howe McArthur of Columbia, South Carolina. He also is survived by a sister, Sally Bell of Jacksonville, Florida, a nephew, Branch Haines, and two grandsons, Johnny and Will McArthur. A memorial service will be held at Athens First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, with visitation at the church following the service. There will be a private interment at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Dr. Bill Brit will officiate. A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late John Walton and Adell Whitehead Norris. He was retired from the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier, and was World War II veteran of the United States Air Force. He was currently a member of Bogart City Council and was serving his second term as Mayor of Bogart. Mr. Norris was a member of Bogart United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West. The Revs. Albert Askew and William "Bill" Ruff will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Frances J. Norris of Bogart; daughter and son in law, Patricia N. and Ray A.
