A native of Clarke County, Mr. Gunnells was a son of James Earnest Gunnells, Athens, and the late Gladys Parnell Gunnells. He was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Whitehall Baptist Church with the Revs. Buford Lockman and Ron Cofer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors, in addition to his father, include two daughters, Barbara Jean McAdams, Athens, and Amanda York, Crawford; a son, Jim Gunnells, Lexington; two brothers, William Paul Gunnells, Winder, and Richard Ray Gunnells, Athens; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East. Ada Lou Maxwell Hartwell Ada Lou Fleming Maxwell, 94, formerly of Bowman, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Maxwell was a daughter of the late Henry Austin and Janie Gaines Fleming. She was preceded in death by two sons, Benjamin Maxwell and Pat Maxwell. She was a homemaker and a member of Bowman United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Revs. Billy Britt and Jim Winn officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bowman. Survivors include four daughters, Hannah Vines, Huey Town, Ala., Winona Ginn, Bowman, Rachel Jones, Winston, and Hortense Maxwell, Lawrenceville; six sons, H. Chandler Maxwell and Louis Maxwell, both of Dewy Rose, Henry Maxwell and Thomas E. Maxwell, both of Dacula, Willard Maxwell, Tucker, and Stuart Maxwell, Lithonia; four sisters, Zelma Mewborne, Elberton, and Annie Ruth Winn, Lois Barton and Margaret Seymour, all of Bowman; 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family is at the home of Louis and Myrtle Maxwell, 1896 Bowman Highway, Dewy Rose. Charles Rousey Bowman Charles Edward "Ed" Rousey, 56, of 1839 Shaw Road died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Rousey was a son of the late Chester Henry and Fannie Mat Rousey. He was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and a truck driver. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rehoboth Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Bradfield officiating. Survivors include his wife, Tibbie Haley Rousey; a son, Eric Rousey, Elberton; a stepdaughter, Lindy Strickland, Danielsville; two sisters, Sue Stanley and Annie Shaw, both of Bowman; a brother, Dean Rousey, Dearing; and five grandchildren. The family is at the home of Louis and Annie Shaw, 1843 Shaw Road. The family has requested that flowers be omitted. Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, is in charge of arrangements. William Smith Sr. Athens William Clark Smith Sr., 75, of 560 Rivermont Road died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998. A native of Rabun County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Will and Connie Lovell Smith. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired appliance repairman with Georgia Power Co. and a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge 790, American Legion, VFW and DAV. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home with Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Sue Carnes Smith; a son, William Clarke Smith Jr., Gainesville; a sister, Susie Smith Fisher, Clayton; and two granddaughters, Beth Smith and Christa Gogstad, both of Alpharetta; and nieces and nephews. A native of Taliaferro County, Mr. Vandiver was a retired truck driver and a member of Washington Church of God. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Washington Church of God with the Revs. Jody Boulineau, Mike Quicke and Cecil Tompkins officiating. Burial will be in Raytown Methodist Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Lois King Vandiver; two daughters, Martha Cole, Raytown, and Judy Gibson, Athens; five sons, Johnny King, Anderson, S.C., Patrick Vandiver, Milledgeville, Loy Vandiver, Maxeys, Paul Vandiver, Union Point, and Jimmy Vandiver, Rutledge; a sister, Sally L. Wakley, Marietta; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Johnny Cole, Dwayne Peters, Paul Vandiver Jr., Zack Ethridge, Patrick Vandiver Jr. and Paul Gibson.
