Andrews Arlington, Va. Alice C. Andrews, 68, professor emerita, George Mason University, died Monday, March 30, 1998. A resident of Northern Virginia since 1952, she lived in Arlington. Dr. Andrews was born in Royston, Ga., and grew up in Athens, Ga. She held degrees from the University of Georgia, Northwestern University and the George Washington University. She was a member of the geography faculty at George Mason University for 22 years, retiring in 1993. During that time she held administrative posts at various times, including several terms as program director for geography and two years as assistant dean of the graduate school. Earlier in her career she had taught at Mount Holyoke College and worked as a geographic analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency. Active in state, regional and national geography associations, she served as president of the Virginia Social Sciences Association, regional councilor for the Middle Atlantic Division of the Association of American Geographers (AAG) and as secretary of the AAG. She was awarded AAG honors in geographic education in 1995. Dr. Andrews was serving on the Board of Trustees of the Population Reference Bureau in Washington. She was a member of the Society of Woman Geographers, Phi Beta Kappa Society and Phi Mu Fraternity. She recently co-authored two atlases with James Fonseca: "The Atlas of American Higher Education" and "The Atlas of American Society." She authored many articles in professional journals. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Burial will be later in Arlington National Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Wallace H. Andrews, two daughters, Sidney M. Kapinos, Gaithersburg, Md., and Eleanor A. Lasky, Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Marion Chandler Lifsey, Atlanta; a brother, Sidney G. Weyman Marshall Watkinsville Weyman Hinton Marshall, 88, of 4351 Colham Ferry Road died Tuesday, March 31, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Marshall was a son of the late Fletcher and Claude Marshall. He was a tax commissioner for Oconee County. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Huff Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Hoard officiating. Survivors include his wife, Edythe Whitehead Marshall; and nieces and nephews. Martin Marietta Robert Murphy Martin, 47, of 2650 Bentley Road, Apt. 19P, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998. A native of Mecklenburg, N.C., Mr. Martin was a son of Sarah Conder Nicholson of Ila and the late Harry T. Martin. A Vietnam veteran and Eagle Scout, he was self employed as a landscaper and a member of First Methodist Church, Tifton. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Charlotte, N.C. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a stepfather, W.S. Viva Maxwell Jonesboro Viva Cole Maxwell, 95, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998. A native of Macon, Miss., Mrs. Maxwell was the widow of Clyde E. Maxwell Sr. She received her undergraduate degree from the Mississippi State College for Women, Columbus, Miss., and her master's degree from the University of Georgia. She was a charter member of Peyton Study Club in Columbus and served as regent of the Elijah Clark Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Athens. She was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, Forest Park. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens, with the Rev. Spencer Frye officiating. Survivors include two sons, Clyde E. Maxwell Jr., Jonesboro, and John Lawson Maxwell, Amelia Island, Fla.; and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Pope Dickson & Son Funeral Home. Hester M. Rechterman Athens Hester M. Rechterman, 85, of 245 Fowler Drive died Wednesday, April 1, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Rechterman was a daughter of the late Mark and Mattie Smith Scoggins. She was retired as co-manager of Jody's Discount and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church with the Revs. Ben Glosson and Hugh Eberhart officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. Survivors include her husband, Paul Rechterman; two daughters, Jean Hopkins and Joan Reynolds, both of Athens; three grandsons, four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Frances Scarborough Elberton Frances Morris Scarborough, 81, of 2152 Dr. George Ward Road died Monday, March 30, 1998. A native of Evans County, Mrs. Scarborough was a daughter of the late James B. and Willie Snellings Morris and the widow of Robert Lee Scarborough. She was a retired owner and operator of a granite finishing plant. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Dewitt Waters officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lee Saxon, Gainesville, Fla.; two sons, Robert Morris Scarborough and Joe H. Scarborough, both of Elberton; a sister, JoAnna Elkins, Elberton; a brother, J.B.
