A native of Charlotte, N.C., she was a daughter of the late George Vance and Marion West Upchurch. She spent most of her life in Athens, and retired from the University of Georgia's Plant Pathology Department. She was of the Baptist faith. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Wesley Stephens officiating. Survivors include her husband, Ray Brown; two sons, Vance W. Snow, Athens, and Chester W. (Chet) Snow, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Charles L. Upchurch II, Athens, and George V. Upchurch, Blairsville; and four grandchildren, Craig Snow, Casey Snow, Megan Snow and Brandon Snow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Unit, Athens Regional Medical Center, 1199 Prince Ave., Athens, Ga., 30606. Maurice Deal Charlotte, N.C. Maurice D. Deal, 68, formerly of Toccoa, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998. A native of Stephens County, he was a son of the late Roy Lee and Estelle Davis Deal. Mr. Deal moved to Charlotte in 1963 and spent his career in the propane gas industry. He was the founder and president of Charlotte Tank Trucks Inc. He was active in the business world and was elected president of the National Propane Gas Association in 1980. He also served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. Mr. Deal was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Dr. Larry Richards and Dr. Gary S. Eller officiating. Burial was in Sharon Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Gilmer Deal; two sons, Bill Deal, Clover, S.C., and Bobby Deal, Clarkesville; a sister, Frances Pruitt, Toccoa; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Charlie Ingram Greensboro Charlie Edward Ingram, 79, of 304C North Spring Street died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998. A native of Greene County, he was a son of the late Lawrence Asbery Ingram and Onnie Jeanette Aaron. Mr. Ingram attended Walton County Schools and worked at Mary Leila Cotton Mill. He was of the Baptist faith. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenview Cemetery, Greensboro, with the Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. William Kelley Elberton William T. Kelley, 81, of 306 Tate St. died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998. A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late John Kelley and Emma D. Kelley and was a retired granite worker at Harmony Blue Granite Co. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Rev. Waymon Dotson officiating. Burial will be in the Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Phoebe D. Kelley; three daughters, Margaret Bridges and Jane Dotson, both of Elberton, and Tempie Moore, Hartwell; three stepsisters, Wilma Evans and Estelle Kelley, both of Anderson, S.C., and Phyllis Osborne, LaFrance, S.C.; four stepbrothers, Arnold Kelley and Norman Kelley, both of Anderson, S.C., Lyndon Kelley, Atlanta, and Cecil Kelley, Philadelphia, Miss.; and nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today. Beatrice Scott Bowman Beatrice Booth Scott, 88, of 312 N. Broad St. died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Alex Booth and Alma King Booth and the widow of Howard Scott. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Joe Mize, and a son, Kenny Scott. She was retired from Wright Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Bowman Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Bowman Baptist Church with the Revs. John Forbes and James Creson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bowman. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Berryman and Carol S. Mills, both of Bowman; two sons, Jerry Scott and Bill Scott, both of Bowman; and 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. M.L. Van Winkle Jr. Greshamville M.L. "Mr. Rip" Van Winkle Jr., 94, of 1070 Copelan Road died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998. A native of Clarke County, he was a son of the late Martin Luther Van Winkle Sr. and Rebecca Vance and the widower of Hattilu Adams Van Winkle. Mr. Van Winkle was a 1924 graduate of Young Harris and a 1927 graduate of Piedmont College. He received a master's degree in education from Auburn University in 1931 and a master's degree in agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1937. He worked for the UGA Agricultural Extension Service. Mr. Van Winkle was Past Superintendent of Schools at Union Point and Madison, Past Master of Madison Masonic Lodge and a member of the Georgia AirStream Club. He was a member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church, Greshamville. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greshamville Cemetery with the Revs. Anne Fletcher and Reginold Gunn officiating. Survivors include a son, M.L. Van Winkle, Stone Mountain; two grandchildren, Marylu Politowski and M. Luther Van Winkle; and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Nancy Weathers Winder Nancy M. Weathers, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998. A native of Staten Island, N.Y., she was a daughter of Nancy M. Sullivan, Winder. Mrs. Weathers moved to Atlanta in 1950. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with Father Cliff Hasler officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Sandy Springs. In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband of 37 years, Robert Weathers; and her twin brother, William Weathers, Norcross. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-4:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. today. Amanda Wilson Baldwin Amanda Pritchett Wilson, 91, of Peach Orchard Road died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998. A native of Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary Evie Thomason Pritchett and the widow of the Rev. Garnet F. Wilson. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mary Bentley, and a stepson, Frank Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was a former dietitian for the Carnesville Schools lunchroom and was retired from the nursing staff at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston. She was a member of Hillside Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Whitfield Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Bobby Jones and Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Allens United Methodist Church Cemetery, Franklin County.
