Brooks Conyers Robert F. (Bobby) Brooks Jr. died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Conyers. Burial will be 3 p.m. in Lexington Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Amelia Golucke Brooks; three daughters, Polly Brooks Simpson and Amelia Rood Crockett, both of Atlanta, and Mary Rood Bagwell, Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Ralph E. Rood, Columbus, Miss.; a sister Mary Brooks Murray, Crawford; a brother, Clifford Brooks, Crawford; and 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert F. (Bobby) Brooks Scholarship Fund, at the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. today at the Harry L. White Funeral Home, Conyers. Annie L. Chancey Winder Annie L. Chancey, 77, of 263 East May St. died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Chancey was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys Waters Sturdivant and was married to the late Bush Chancey. She was a member of Whistleville Christian Church Services will be 2 p.m. today at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home with the Revs. Linwood Smith, Ray Fumea, and J.R. Baird officiating. Burial will be in Carter Hill Christian Church Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Lee, Winder; a son, Joe Chancey, Bethlehem; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. H. Raymond Florence Toccoa The Rev. H. Raymond Florence, 87, of Lewis St. died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. A native of Detroit, Mich., Mr. Florence was a son of the late Edward and Eva Belle Cool Florence and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Elzinga. He was a member of the Toccoa First Alliance Church, the Adult Sunday School Class, and was a minister. He attended Missionary Bible Schools in Vermillion, Ohio and Nyack, N.Y. After graduation in 1933 he became a missionary in Alberta, Canada for a year before becoming Pastor of Christian Missionary Alliance Churches which he started in Sandusky, Ohio, Weirton, W.Va., and Albuquerque, N.M. He then went to Africa, in the Belgian Congo which later became Zaire, and Rwanda and Burundi, where he spent 25 years working with the Christian Missionary Alliance and Child Evangelism Fellowship. After this he returned to the home office as Vice President of Overseas Ministries for 16 years and introduced the C.E.F. Program to 135 countries. Then he retired at age 65. After retirement he was asked by Bible Center Ministries International to introduce B.C.M. to the French countries of West Africa. This led to a stay in Belgium to translate B.C.M. material into French for two years. Upon returning home, he retired again at age 73. In 1994 he wrote his book, God Made My Garden Grow. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Alliance Church with the Revs. Ferrell Towns and David Reese officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge, with the Revs. David Fox and William Mellor officiating. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Pleger Florence; a daughter, Lois Jeanne Lass, Toccoa; a son, Larry Florence, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family is at the residence and will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at Whitlock Mortuary. Joseph Maxwell Royston Joseph Maxwell, 48, of 271 Jones Circle died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. A native of Elberton, Mr. Maxwell was a son of William Henry Maxwell and the late Annie Sue Maxwell and was married to the late Eva Maxwell. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Truman Bolden officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors, in addition to his father, include two daughters, Angela Glaze, Madison, and Sheila Maxwell, Royston; a sister, Maryann Wall, Hartwell; two brothers, George Henry Maxwell and William Thomas Maxwell, both of Bowman; and four grandchildren. The family is at the home of Sheila Maxwell, 147 Jones Circle, Royston. Mack's Funeral Home, Hartwell, is in charge of arrangements. William David Ray Allendale, S.C. William David Ray, of 603 Mulberry St. died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998. A native of Athens, Mr. Ray was a son of Myrtle Reynolds Ray and the late William S. Ray and was preceded in death by a son, William Hugh Ray. He held a Master's degree, was formerly employed by the State Dept. of Mental Health, was director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center, Allendale, was a member of Bellinger Chapel United Methodist Church, Fairfax, and was involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry. Services will be 3 p.m. today at Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home, Allendale, S.C. Burial will be in the Swallow Savannah Cemetery. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Rebecca Price Ray; a son, James Barton Ray, Allendale; and a sister, Patty Ray Smith, Hartwell. James W. Vandiver Greensboro James W. Vandiver, 54, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Vandiver was a son of Wilbert Garrett Vandiver and the late Doris Lee Walker Vandiver. He was a Vietnam veteran and of the Baptist faith. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens with the Rev. Crist Camden officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors, in addition to his father, include two sisters, Ruth Ann Warwick, Athens, and Margaret Reszutek, Cumming; and a brother, Paul Douglas Vandiver, Morrow. Walters Toccoa Faye T. Walters, 75, of Brookhaven Circle died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Walters was a daughter of the late Rev. Ben F. and Joy Turner and was married to the late Ira Odell Walters. She owned and operated a beauty salon for many years and was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Eastanollee Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Ivester and Clarence Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Crawford, Toccoa, and Brenda Tillotson, Graham, N.C.; three sons, the Rev. Harold Walters, Piedmont, S.C., Randy Walters, Cumming, and Frankie Walters, Clarkesville; six sisters, Edith Addison, Toccoa, Hazel Anderson, Cornelia, Vera Mae Ayers and Trudy Nichols, both of Eastanollee, Bertha Pritchett, Buford, and Jean Rampey, Liberty, S.C.; a brother, the Rev. Ben F. Turner Jr., Acworth; and 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
