Barnes, 82, of 107 Georgetown Drive died Monday, April 6, 1998. A native of Sharon, Penn., Mr. Barnes was a son of the late William T. and Anna Bulloch Barnes. He began working at Westinghouse as a manufacturing information writer in 1937. As a sales engineer in 1952, he represented the company on pole-type transformers for 27 years with electric utilities in the South, Midwest and Pacific Coast zones. In retirement, he was a registered commodity adviser. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis Club and a volunteer for United Way. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Bowden officiating. Survivors include his wife, Isabel Barnes; a daughter, Gail Barnes Miles, Lawrenceville; two sons, Gary A. Barnes and Todd L. Barnes, both of Atlanta; two sisters, Mary E. Barnes and Catherine M. Cozadd, both of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. Margaret Heckman Athens Margaret Powell Byrd Heckman, 83, of 580 Milledge Circle died Tuesday, April 7, 1998. A native of Rabun County, Mrs. Heckman was a daughter of the late James O. and Mary Scruggs Powell and widow of Dr. Elon Byrd and Harold M. Heckman. She was a graduate of Montreat and the University of Georgia and worked for the U.S. government for a number of years. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and St. Martha's Chapter. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Ard officiating. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Goodwin Nix, Augusta; four brothers, Claude Powell, Mountain City, John Powell, Marcus Hook, Penn., Bill Powell, Conover, N.C., and Dick Powell, Wilmington, Del.; and nieces and nephews. Bridges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ruth A. Jackson Hartwell Eva Ruth Adams Jackson, 94, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998. Widow of Dr. Thomas Jefferson Jackson Jr., Mrs. Jackson attended Anderson College, Anderson, S.C., and earned degrees from Georgia State College for Women (now GSC), Milledgeville, and the University of Georgia. She was retired from teaching second grade at Hartwell Elementary School and also had been a beginning teacher in Tignall. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where among other ministries she served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the young people's department and as a member of Martha Bowers Women of Missions, Ruth Sunday school class and the equipment and design committee for the present sanctuary. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. F. Hugh Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Jackson Davis, Canton; a sister, Elizabeth Adams Ware, Tignall; a grandson and two great-granddaughters. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Manley was a son of the late Memphis and Rilla Hyde Manley. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Randall Starrett, Bobby Farmer and Johnny Ashworth officiating. James Muirhead Athens James Rockwell Muirhead, 86, of 384 Woodward Way died Monday, April 6, 1998. A native of Cook County, Ill., Mr. Muirhead was a son of the late James Findlay and Ruth Rockwell Muirhead. An Army veteran of World War II, he earned a degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota, was treasurer for Roper Pump Co., a member of Grace Fellowship Church of God and Athens Kiwanis Club, and a board member and treasurer of Reading for the Blind. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Wessinger. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Scofield Muirhead; a daughter, Barbara France, Newnan; and a son, Lawrence Rockwell Muirhead, Memphis, Tenn. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
