A native of Cow Island, La., Ms. Abshire was a daughter of the late Edward and Azilda Gaspard Abshire. She had lived in Winterville for the past seven years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with Brother Francis M. Luna Mae Cawthon Royston Mrs. Luna Mae Cheek Cawthon, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998. Mrs. Cawthon was born Dec. 27, 1910, in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Burrus and Ester Cunningham Cheek and widow of Marvin Turin Cawthon. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Mason, two brothers, Leonard Cheek and Alton Cheek, and a son-in-law, Bob Clupper. She was a homemaker and a retired seamstress and was a member of Canon Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Canon Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Creason, Eldon Massey and James F. Creason officiating. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery, Canon. A native of Gastonia, N.C., Mrs. Duffield was a daughter of the late George D. and Ollie Warren Lewis and the widow of Joseph W. Duffield Jr. She was retired from Norda Inc. She had lived in Athens for the past 10 years and did volunteer work for St. Mary's Auxiliary, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the Georgia Botanical Gardens and Gaines Elementary School. She had retired from Coats and Clark in Toccoa after 36 years of service. She was a member of Toccoa Christian Church. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Samuel and Lenore Robinson. He taught race relations and social theory at the University of Georgia. He was active in the civil rights movement in the Southeast, was a longtime member and served on the board of the Anti-Defamation League, and was actively involved in the local integration movement. He was a charter member of the Jeanette Rankin Foundation. Funeral services will be at noon today at Oconee Hill Cemetery with Rabbi Jordan Parr of Augusta officiating.
