A native of Madison County, Mrs. Branyon was a daughter of the late Lafayette and Cornelia Patterson and the widow of Elmer Branyon. She served as pastor's wife at Edwards Baptist Church in Crawford; Cooked Creek Baptist Church in Jackson County; Bluestone Baptist Church in Danielsville; Victory Baptist Church and Maranatha Baptist Church, both in Bristol, Va.; Fellowship Baptist Church in Elloree, S.C.; and Friendship Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She also served as a teacher's aide and professional seamstress. She taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and was instrumental, with her husband, in helping establish Maranatha Bible Camp in Ila. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the American Association of University Women. She taught English in the Portal, Sylvania, Guyton, Cedartown, Marshallville, Vidalia, Winder and Covington school systems and also at Athens High School, where she spent the last 21 years of her career.
