Moore Jr., 75, of 20 Lathan Road died Wednesday, July 8, 1998. The Rev. Moore was a son of the late Rev. Willis Jefferson Moore Sr. and Catherine Blanche Carden Moore and was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Skelton Moore. He was a retired Baptist minister. He was a talented athlete and played college-level and semi-professional baseball. For more than a 50 years he founded or pastored Southern Baptist Churches, beginning in Macon during his college days at Mercer University. As the founding pastor of West Macon Baptist Church, Macon, he left Mercer and continued to pastor churches in Atlanta, Perry, Resaca, Dalton, Morganton, N.C., Toccoa and Gillsville, finally concluding his full-time church ministry in Commerce in 1986, where he was pastor of Madison Street Baptist Church for 12 years. After retiring, he served as a speaker or interim pastor in Baptist churches throughout Northeast Georgia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. Clack Stubbs, Billy Owensby, Brad Wilson and Bob Nash officiating. A native of Phenix City, Ala., Mr. Roberts was a son of the late Gaynell Hayes Roberts and James Henry Roberts Jr. He was a deputy sheriff with the Russell County Sheriff's Department, member of Wilson WilFraternal Order of the Police and a licensed funeral director and embalmer with the states of Georgia and Alabama.
