'Pete' Bell Watkinsville Daniel F. "Pete" Bell, 70, formerly of Watkinsville, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. A son of the late Flanders and Audrey T. Bell, Mr. Bell was born and grew up in Oglethorpe County. He lived in Oconee County from 1949 until he moved to Virginia in 1995. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Bell was retired from Southeastern Testing Laboratories, Bishop. A memorial service will be held Saturday at the home of Dick and Jean Bell, 1061 Black Ike Road, Watkinsville, with the Rev. David Perkins officiating. Survivors include his wife, Betty Bell, three daughters, Debbie Gifford, Lynn Prettyman and Daphne Bell, all of Virginia; a son, Danny Bell, Virginia; two sisters Martha Marable and Joyce Andrews, both of Watkinsville; two brothers Buck Bell and Dick Bell, both of Watkinsville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care-Eastern Shore, 7317 Fleeming Road, New Church, Va. 23415. Annie Black Bray Bishop Annie Black Bray, 95, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Bray was a retired schoolteacher and a member of Bishop Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and the University of Georgia. Services were Monday at Bishop Baptist Church with the Revs. Rufus Rowland and James Ashe officiating. Survivors include a brother, W.E. "Billy" Black Sr., Bluffton, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Baptist Church. Moores Funeral Home, Milledgeville, was in charge of arrangements. Ethelynn Bridges Lexington Ethelynn Jones Bridges, 65, of 3267 Centerville Road died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998. A native of Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late Emory and Winona Duncan Jones. She was a gardener and designer for Clar-Wood Green Houses and a member of the Winterville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Franklin L. Farr. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Clifton Barrett officiating. Survivors include her husband, Herschel Eugene "Gene" Bridges; a daughter, Wanda Lynn Compton, Lexington; six sisters, Frances Burkhalter, Ann McDaniel, Lynda Smith and Dot Lovett, all of Winterville, Vivian Bradberry, Watkinsville, and Carol Porterfield, Athens; five brothers, Paul Jones, Watkinsville, Charles Jones and Clifford Jones, both of Winterville, Robert Jones, Danielsville, and Grady Jones, Commerce; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton. Gary Owen Callaway Washington Gary Owen Callaway, 45, of 408 N. Alexander Ave. died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998. A native and lifelong resident of Wilkes County, Mr. Callaway was a son of Owen Bernard Callaway, Rayle, and Peggy R. Callaway, Washington. He was a U.S. Postal Service employee and worked in construction. Graveside services will at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sardis Baptist Church cemetery, Rayle, with the Revs. Leon Anthony and Roy Cates officiating. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a daughter, Lindsey Callaway, Washington; and two brothers, Larry Bernard Callaway, Rayle, and William Scott Callaway, Thomson. Estelle Heard Elberton Mary Estelle Perkins Heard, 88, of 357 Heard St. died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. A native of Stewart County, Mrs. Heard was a daughter of the late William Benjamin and Susan Edna Sherman Perkins and widow of A. Latimer Heard Sr. She taught mathematics at Elbert County High School and was a member of the Elberton First United Methodist Church, the Lena Childs Sunday School class and the Altar Guild. She graduated magna cum laude from Wesleyan College, Macon. Mrs. Heard was an avid gardener and Bridge Club member. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Elberton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wallace Wheeles officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Estele "Telle" Zeiler, McLean, Va; a son, A. Latimer "Lat" Heard Jr., Watkinsville; and three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Thomas Jackson Huff Athens Thomas Jackson Huff, 46, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Huff was a son of the late Joseph Jackson and Mary Belle Peters Huff. Nelms, 74, of Dew Drop Lane died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Nelms was a son of the late Leonard and Tennie Freeman Nelms. He was a poultry farmer and saw miller and a member of Return Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Dean Nelms and David Nelms. A former mayor of Maysville and the first Scoutmaster of Homer Boy Scouts troop, Mr. Ray was a native of Baldwin County and a son of the late Hubert J. and Kate Marrie Minish Ray. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and of the Maysville Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Yaarab Temple. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronald Hinson and Brad Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mose Rucker Sr. Martinez Mose Rucker Sr., 91, of 280 Mirmar Extension, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Rucker was a son of the late John and Sallie M. Rucker. A retired farmer and custodian for the Columbia County school system, he was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church.
