A native of Jasper, Mrs. Brightwell was a daughter of the late Hattie and Henry McCowan. She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Brightwell. She was a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, and a foster mother for many years. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Forrest Lester officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Harold Brightwell Sr.; seven children, Henrietta Sims, College Park, Harold Brightwell Jr., Athens, Katrina Brightwell and Kenneth Brightwell, both of Atlanta, and Melissa Scott, Janie Brightwell and Ashely Brightwell, all of Union Point; two sisters, Elierleen McCowan, Jasper, and Idella Morgan, Decatur; three brothers, Booker T. McCowan, California, Truman McCowan, Virginia, and Charles McCowan, Duluth; five grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-8 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home. Cleo Cornic Pendergrass Cleo Raymond Cornic, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Mr. Cornic was a son of the late Jay B. Estella W. Cornic and widow of the late Clarice Marie Cornic. He served as a WFI officer in the Navy for 30 years, including during World War II and the Korean conflict. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include two sons, Walter Ray Cornic, Bartlett, Tenn., and Raymond Lawrence Cornic, Hoschton; a brother, Lawrence Lenard Cornic, Burlington, Iowa; and two grandchildren. Clarence Franklin Jr. Bogart Clarence Franklin Jr., 59, of 1031 Ramser Drive died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe Coun ty, Mr. Franklin was a son of the late Clarence and Gertrude Guest Franklin. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, he was a retired policeman and owner of Franklin Sports. He served with the Athens Police Department from 1962-1976, retiring as sergeant. He was named Small Business Person of the Year in 1998 by the Athens Chamber of Commerce as owner of Franklin Sports Inc. He was a devoted family man and supporter of several youth organizations, and sponsored the Annual Fishing Rodeo for the Boys Club. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann McCarty Franklin; two daughters, Carol Allison Franklin and Kimberly Ann Duncan, both of Athens; a son, Mark Vincent Franklin, Athens; and three granddaughters, Lindsey Duncan, Mary Claire and Sarah Kate Duncan, all of Athens. Mr. Hughes was a son of Genevieve Hughes, Loganville, and the late Floyd H. Hughes. He was self-employed in the construction industry. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Dr. Stewart Sims and Dr. Henry Fields officiating. Burial will follow Wednesday in Lakeview Cemetery, Providence, Ky. Mrs. Piercy had resided here in Athens for 14 years. She was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Pearl Stephens Wood and widow of the late Lyman B. Piercy. Before retirement, she was a ninth-grade math teacher in the North Little Rock, Ark., school system for more than 30 years. When living in Athens she was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church, where she was very active in church activities. She currently was a member of Toccoa First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Nancy Piercy, Zionsville, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and the Rev. Mildred Rochford Madison Mildred Lorain Rochford, 90, of 990 Crawford St. died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. A native of Falmouth, Ky., Mrs. Rochford was a daughter of the late Elzar and Lizzie Barnes and was widow of C.P. Rochford. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Madison Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ross officiating. Burial will be in Hillandale Memorial Gardens. Survivors include two cousins, Helen B. Kopp, Cincinnati, and Vivian Gilbert, Falmouth, Ky. Rosa Wells Comer Rosa Belle Wells, 89, formerly of Carnesville, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Wells was a daughter of the late Marion and Molly Wright Atkinson. She was married twice, first to the late Aubrey Powers, second to the late Thomas Joseph Wells, and was preceded in death by two daughters, Martha Wells and Mary Lou Segars. She was a homemaker and a member of Zidon Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zidon Baptist Church with the Revs. Leon Carson, Paul Collins and Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Brown, Hampton, and Merle Bridges, Royston; a son, Horace Powers, Carnesville; five stepdaughters, Omie Hickman and Willie Mae Bennett, both of Toccoa, Minnie Neal Moore, Ila, Dora Lee Ayres, Red Hill Community, and Robbie Roach, Royston; a stepson, Thomas Wells, Toccoa; a brother, W.T. Edna Temples Hartwell Edna Haggard Anderson Temples, 96, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Temples was a daughter of the late William Linton and Emily Sara Ingram Anderson. She was married twice, first to the late Thomas Anderson, second to the late John C. Temples. She was retired from the Hart County School System, where she was a former supervisor in the high school cafeteria. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Erlene Finley,, Lavonia, Betty Smith, Franklin Springs, and Peggy Gonsenhauser, Lithia Springs; three sons, Thomas Anderson, Conyers, Billy Anderson, Anderson, and Jack Anderson, Charleston Heights, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
