A native of Madison County, Mrs. Capes was a daughter of the late William E. and Anna Massey Whitlock and widow of Homer Capes. She was preceded in death by a son, Ambray Capes. She was retired from Singer Furniture Co. and was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church and Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Jeff Connell officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Clement Toccoa Peggy Dobbs Crisp Clement, 60, of 5301 Rebel Road, Marietta, formerly of Toccoa, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998. A native of Hall County, Mrs. Clement was a daughter of Charles A. Dobbs of Toccoa and the late Annie Lou London Dobbs and widow of Guy Crisp. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, having majored in chemistry. She was a real estate agent and was affiliated with Northside Realty for 10 years, later working with Rhone-Poulene in industrial chemistry. She was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Toccoa Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Robert Magness and Paul Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Grunewald and Paula Paul, and two brothers, Eric Grunewald and Karl Grunewald. A resident of Hartwell since coming from New York City in 1951, he was a retired businesswith Umbrella Manufacturers and a member of Congregation Children of Israel. Patricia Jarvis Athens Patricia Ann Jarvis, 52, of 260 Oglethorpe Terrace died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Ms. Jarvis was a daughter of the late Catherine Jarvis. A native of Elizabeth, N.J., Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Edward and Theresa Gressing Guempel and widow of Wilfred Jones. She had lived in the Athens area since 1987, moving from Florida where she was active in the Eastern Star, Demolay, Order of the Rainbow for Girls, the Garden State Club and the National Drum and Fife Corps, and was a member of Wesleyan Presbyterian Church and involved in many other community activities. The family will host an open house 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the residence to celebrate the life of Mrs. Jones. She had made her home in Athens since 1965 and had been a foster parent for 20 years. She was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church. Dr. John Vinson Macon Dr. John Chalmers Vinson, 76, of 2968 Victoria Circle died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998. A native of Africa, Dr. Vinson was a son of the late Thomas Chalmers and Nan Wharton Vinson. He was formerly of Athens and was retired from the University of Georgia, where he was professor of American Diplomatic History for more than 40 years. In addition to his teaching, he was a scholar who was the author of a number of books and articles published in Europe and Australia as well as the United States. He was a John Simon Guggenheim Fellow and a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens, where he taught Sunday school for many years. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at First UMC with the Rev. Ed. Hague officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include two sons, John Chalmers Vinson Jr., Monterey, Va., and Douglas Claud Vinson, Macon; and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. today at the church. Jerry Wright Toccoa Jerry Ernest Wright, 56, of 729 Tugalo St., Toccoa, husband of Beverly Smart Wright, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at his home after an extended illness. A native of Stephens County, he was a son of Olivia Kesler Wright of Toccoa and the late Ernest Dewey Wright. Mr. Wright was retired from the clothing manufacturing business where he worked for 35 years with Wright Manufacturing and Oxford Industries in Toccoa and most recently held the position of Vice President of Operations. He was a graduate of Toccoa High School and the University of Georgia Business School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa. He served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Board of Trustees for Truett McConnell College and the Lake Rabun Association and was a member and current Director of Regions Bank Board of Directors in Toccoa. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Toccoa; wife of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Craig Halder, Naples, Italy; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Heather Wright, Clayton; a granddaughter, Rabun Wright, Clayton; two sisters, Carole Middlebrooks, Athens, and Olivia Bruce, Memphis. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, from the First Baptist Church of Toccoa with Dr. Henry Fields and the Rev. David Turner officiating.
