Bailey, 75, of 433 Bear Creek Road, died Friday, April 10, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Bailey was a son of the late A.V. and Evalina South Bailey and widower of Dorothy Watkins Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired farmer. He was an associate of Weldon Funeral Home for a number of years and was presently associated with Ed Murdock Superstore in Lavonia, a position held for many years. He was a former city councilman with the City of Lavonia, having served for 24 years. During his tenure as councilman, he served on numerous occasions as Mayor pro tem. Mr. Bailey was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Farm Bureau and a former member of the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association. He was once named Farmer of the Year by the University of Georgia Extension Service. He served on the Board of Directors of the Broad River Soil and Water Conservation District, was a member of the Lavonia Lion's Club, the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce and was a Mason. Mr. Bailey was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hamby-Weldon Funeral Home, Lavonia, with the Revs. Richard Bielski, Ted Kelley and Dr. Larry Ringer officiating. Burial will be in Lavonia City Cemetery with Mike Graham officiating. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Graham Bailey; a daughter, Nancy Bruce, Lavonia; a stepson, Michael Shannon Smallwood, Cornelia; two sisters, Margaret Conwell and Mary Nell Whiten, both of Lavonia; a brother, James F. Bailey, Ponte Vedra, Fla.; and two grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Lavonia Mayor Ralph Owens, the Lavonia City Council, the Lavonia Police Department, the Lavonia Fire Department, all city employees of the City of Lavonia, the staff of the Ed Murdock Superstore, Harry Davis and Jeff Davis. A native of Commerce, Mrs. Baker was a daughter of the late Edmond Bennett and Eula (Edmondson) Bennett and widow of Cleve Baker. She was a homemaker. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Milton Clark Athens Milton "Bo" Clark, 82, of 165 Royal Court, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Clark was a son of the late Bell Clark and the grandson of the late John Clark. He lived in Buffalo, N.Y., for several years before moving back to Georgia in 1963. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Watkinsville, with the Rev. J.L. Nunnally officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was retired from Piedmont Paints and Primers. He was a member of Toms Creek Baptist Church and the Daniel Sunday school class. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Hicks was a daughter of the late William Gordon Roe Sr. and Nannie Kay Roe and widow of Joseph Milton Hicks Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, J. Milton Hicks Jr. Mrs. Hicks was a homemaker and former teacher at Bowersville School. Mrs. Hicks was the oldest member of Old Canon Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and pianist. Sylvia Rudow Hartwell Sylvia Ann Rudow, also of St. Simon's, died Friday, April 10, 1998. A resident of the Athens area for 25 years, Mrs. Rudow held various positions at St. Mary's Hospital, including Head Nurse of the Emergency Room and Nursing Supervisor. She was a consummate cook, an avid golfer and a loyal Bulldog fan. Sylvia was loved, respected and cherished by her family, friends and former co-workers.
