A native of Franklin County, Mr. Chastain was a son of Cynthia Usrey Chastain, Royston, and Marty Robin Chastain, Danielsville. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, JoAnn Boleman. Brantley Handspike Sr. Rayle Brantley Handspike Sr., 75, of 526 Courtground Road died Friday, June 5, 1998. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Handspike was a son of the late Sam and Laura H. Handspike. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at White Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. G.L. Avery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Davenport-McLendon Mortuary, Washington, is in charge of arrangements. Joseph L. Hurst Baldwin Joseph L. Hurst, 89, formerly of Commerce, died Thursday, June 11, 1998. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Hurst was a son of the late Joseph Colquit and Edna Pharr Hurst and was the widower of Marcelle Johnson Hurst. He resigned November 1952 from Ford Truck and Fleet Sales Manager Southern Region to take over the Ford-Mercury Dealership in Commerce, where he worked for 21 years. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club and Commerce Inter-Club Council; chairman of the Jackson County Industrial Development Committee and Commerce Recreation Committee; and board member of the Banks-Jackson-Commerce Hospital Authority. He directed the Commerce Beautification Project and mobilized the community support in launching an "Anti Litter Campaign." He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner; an active member of Commerce Presbyterian Church, serving as a Ruling Elder, Clerk of the Session, Church Trustee, Athens Presbytery Trustee and Men's Bible Teacher. In 1977-78 he chaired the committee charged with building the new Commerce Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Commerce Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Tom Lewis and Blake Breitenhirt officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens. She was the oldest member of Bluestone Baptist Church and was preceded in death by two daughters and three sons: Doris Lowe, Evelyn L. Shaw, Elton E. Lowe, William R. Lowe and H. Eugene Lowe. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Marsingill was a son of the late Henry and Ludie Brewer Marsingill. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Marsingill and a daughter, Carolyn Free. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Branyon of Anderson County, S.C. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School in the 1920s and nursed in the Athens Area for several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens and the widow of Lt. Col. Vernon Wimberly. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Grady Wigley officiating.
