McCarthy "Mack" Crenshaw Sr., 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Crenshaw in 1929 attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship and lettered in football, basketball and track, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, and was president of S.A.E. Fraternity. In 1933 he graduated with an A.B. degree, attended UGA Law School and received an LL.B. degree in 1935. He was nominated in 1933 for the Rhodes Scholarship and returned to Jacksonville to work with the law firm Knigh, Adair, Cooper and Osborne, later forming Kent and Crenshaw with the late Fred H. Kent and then a partnership with Joseph M. Glickstein. He practice general civil law for 50 years and was active in many professional, civic and social organizations up until the time of his death. He served 27 years in the Army, retiring as Lt. Colonel, and received a Bronze Star Medal. He was an active alumni of UGA and in 1962 established a fund to make interest-free emergency loans to UGA law school students. He was a trustee of the Georgia Student Educational Fund, trustee-emeritus of the UGA Foundation and served as the first out-of-state president of the UGA Alumni Society. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Riverside Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Richard J. Hull II officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Virginia B. Crenshaw; a daughter, Virginia C. Elliott; a son, McCarthy Crenshaw Jr.; a sister, Elizabeth C. Poole; a brother, Lawrence A. Crenshaw; eight grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, and great-nieces and great-nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity, the Riverside Avenue Christian Church Building Fund or Hospice Northeast Florida Inc. Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Theresia P. Dragojlovich Buford Theresia P. Dragojlovich, 69, of 3510 Montana Road died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. A native of Austria, Mrs. Dragojlovich was a daughter of the late Karl and Mary Plattner. She was a retired furniture retail sales person. Private memorial services will be later. Survivors include her husband, John Dragoljlovich; a daughter and son-in-law, Sonia and Steve Steffes, Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Susan Dragoljlovich, Atlanta; a grandson, Andy Steffes, Athens; and a brother and other family members in Austria. Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of arrangements. Timothy Fitzgerald Royston Timothy James Fitzgerald, 40, of 1834 Old Elbert Road died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998. A native of Chicago, Mr. Fitzgerald was a son of Josephine Fitzgerald, Chicago, and the late John Fitzgerald. He was on active duty in the Navy and stationed in Maryland. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rose Hill Cemetery with full military rites. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Pam Fisher Fitzgerald; a daughter, Carrie Lynn Fitzgerald, Royston; two sons, James O'Neal, Lavonia, and Toby Jay Fitzgerald, Royston; a stepdaughter, Tina Brown, Boulder Creek, Calif.; three brothers, Lewis Purna, Libertyville, Ill., Allen Fitzgerald, Alabama, and Jolin Fitzgerald, Hawaii; and four grandchildren. The family is at the residence and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Pruitte Funeral Home. Annie Harris Toccoa Annie Belle Bonham Harris, 88, of Oak Cliff Drive died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. A native of Blackshear, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late Riley and Arbelle Hiers Bonham and was the widow of Joseph Elbert Harris. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ted Harris. She was a homemaker, a member of First Alliance Church of Toccoa and a lifelong member of the First Assembly Church of God, Savannah. Services were Friday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Ferrell Towns officiating. Burial will be today in Patterson Cemetery, Patterson. Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Clayton and Bonnie Akins, both of Toccoa, and Roxie Brunson, Brunswick; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family is at the homes of Bonnie Akins and Ruth Clayton, both in Toccoa. Carlton Hicks Watkinsville Elbert Carlton Hicks, 75, of 1580 Tappan Spur Road died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Hicks was born Oct. 23, 1922. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a retired electrical engineer with AT&T. He was a generous and loving father and grandfather. Throughout his life he lived with honor, principle and respect for all. A private memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15, on Goshen Mountain, where his spirit will be set free to flow along the banks of the Soque River. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Jeff Geeter, of Watkinsville; a brother, Albert Byron Hicks of Satellite Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Amberly Grace Geeter of Watkinsville; and two nieces and one nephew. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East, Athens, is in charge of arrangements. Earl Howard Crawford Earl Howard, 71, of 40 Railroad St. died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Howard was a son of the late John Morrison and Flossie Christine McGaha Howard. A Navy veteran, he was retired from Central Sawyer, currently Seaboard Farms. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East, Athens, with the Rev. Curtis Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Winterville Cemetery, Winterville. Survivors include five daughters, Pat Shedd and Pam Barrentime, both of Crawford, Gloria Cole, Stockbridge, Shelly Streetman, Winterville, and Ellen Myers, Comer; six sons, Cecil Mauldin, Guy Mauldin and Shane Erwin, all of Crawford, J.B. Howard, Comer, Sam Erwin, Rayle, and Alan Erwin, Lexington; three sisters, Martha Jane Reynolds, Sparta, Mozell Maxeys, Greensboro, and Clyde Price, Maxeys; a brother, J.M. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ann McConnell Clarkesville Ann "Annmac" Waterston McConnell died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Mrs. McConnell was a daughter of John Waters and Bertha Lackman Waterston, Augusta, and was the widow of John Campbell McConnell. She was a graduate of GSCW and received her master's of education from George Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn. She earned a specialist degree in early childhood education at the University of Georgia and taught kindergarten and first grade until the early 1970s. She was instrumental in launching the public kindergarten program in the Ninth District, which lead to a statewide kindergarten program. She concluded her professional career as the early childhood specialist with Pioneer CESA. She was a volunteer in the Habersham County Soup Kitchen and Habersham County Homework Center and spearheaded the literacy program at North Georgia Technical Institute. She was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association and Alpha Delta Kappa. She and her husband founded and operated Camp Cherokee for Girls on Lake Burton 1972-1996. She helped establish Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Toccoa, and Faith Lutheran Church, Clarkesville. Memorial services were Sept. 5 at Camp Cherokee for Girls. Eugene Patrick Gainesville Eugene Patrick, 68, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. A native of Jackson, Mr. Patrick was a son of the late Jim and Mamie Lee White Patrick. An Army veteran, he was a self-employed welder and of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 11 a.m today at McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia. Burial will be in Level Grove Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Turner and Deborah Rice, both of Alto; a son, Greg Patrick, Alto; two sisters, Louise Yoder, Demorest, and Mary Geraci, New Jersey; three brothers, Horace Patrick, Athens, Terrell Patrick, Flowery Branch, and Joe Patrick, Jefferson; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bobby Watkins Athens Bobby "Pee Wee" Watkins, 56, of 335 N. Pope St. died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Watkins was a son of Mamie Watkins, Athens, and the late Ollie Watkins. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home with the Revs. B.S. Jackson and Charles Mack officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Patricia Ann Bolton, Athens; a brother, Ray Watkins, Athens; two sisters, Janie Darden and Lillian Williams, both of Athens; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
