A native of Commerce, Mr. Carroll was a son of Viola Potts, Winder, and the late Ernest Carrol. He was a mechanic. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Crooked Creek Cemetery with the Revs. Thomas Miles and Dennis Wester officiating. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Helen Marie Carroll; four daughters, Amelia Carroll and Brenda Carroll, both of Jefferson, Elaine Howington, Pendergrass, and Amy White, Commerce; five sons, Christopher Carroll, Edward Carroll and Lennord Carroll, all of Jefferson, and Guy W. White and John A. White, both of Conyers; three sisters, Vernell Keyes and Mary Whitlock, both of Winder, and Mildred Lanaford, Sandersville; and five grandchildren. The family will receive friends 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Edith Cooper Athens Edith Johnson Cooper, 76, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Cooper was a daughter of the late A.A. and Lena Rumsey Johnson. She was a former employee of Southern Bell Telephone Co. and a former manager of Cooper's Drive Inn Restaurant. She was a past member of the Noon Club and Athens Business Girls Club and a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Doug Thrasher, Bob Gillespie and Paul Hanna officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. Survivors include her husband, W.A. "Billy" Cooper; a son, Ronald Cooper; a sister, Nina Hazen; a grandson; and 18 nieces and nephews. Thomas Edwards Watkinsville James Thomas Edwards, 73, of 2740 Barnett Shoals Road died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Edwards was a son of Robert L. and Addie Smith Edwards. An Army veteran, he was a retired supervisor for Southern Case and Pallet Co. and a member of Watkinsville Memorial Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, Bogart, with the Rev. Darrell Gilmer officiating. Burial will be in Edwards Family Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice C. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Rubye S. Ferguson Lavonia Mrs. Rubye S. Ferguson, age 93, of Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, 1998, in Royston. Born in Franklin County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Foster and Sallie Vandiver Thomas. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Joe R. Ferguson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wallace Waymond Steed, and sisters, Mrs. Eula T. League, Mrs. Jewel T. Mauldin and Miss Jessie Thomas. A brother, Wallace William Thomas, also preceded her in death. Her survivors include a sister, Mrs. Sara T. Whitlow, Stone Mountain; and two grandchildren, Pamela A. Palmer, Charlotte, N.C., and Richard T. Steed, Augusta. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, with the Rev. Richard Bielski and Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Leon Gunter Elberton Leon Gordon Gunter, 80, of 1323 Washington Highway died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. A native of Hart County, Mr. Gunter was a son of the late Thomas Gordon and Ruby Fleming Gunter and was the widower of Mildred Elizabeth Boles Gunter. A retired Army first sergeant having served in World War II and the Korean conflict, he was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, Pulliam-Burton Veterans of Foreign Wars 5456 and Tate-Clarke American Legion Post 14. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery with military honors. Survivors include a daughter, Patsy McMath, Albany; a son, Tommy Gunter, New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Marjorie Bettis and Janice Boles, both of Elberton; a brother, Howard Gunter, Elberton; and six grandchildren. Harrison, 68, of Route 2, Red Rock Road died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Harrison was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Gober and was the widow of Roscoe Harrison. She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church, Madison, S.C. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Lula Skelton and Winnie B. Jarrett, both of Toccoa; and two brothers, Green Gober and the Rev. W.I. Gober. Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mildred Huskins Athens Mildred Amburn Huskins, 85, of 220 Oakland Way died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. Mrs. Huskins was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther F. Amburn. She graduated from Meredith College, Raleigh, N.C., with a degree in home economics and did graduate work in social services at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She worked for the National Youth Administration, Greensboro, N.C., and the Farm Security Administration, serving rural families in Guilford and Randolph counties. She covered courts and politics as a newspaper reporter in Statesville, served as president of the Sir Walter Cabinet and North Carolina Press Women, of which she was a lifetime member, and Statesville Woman's Club. She was a founder and president of a local museum, a board member of Davis Community Hospital, a member of the Davis Foundation, a stockholder and member of the board of the Statesville Record and Landmark until it was sold, and co-publisher of the Chowan Herald, Edenton, N.C. She was a member of the Presidents Club of the University of Georgia and a patron of the Georgia Museum of Art. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nicholson Funeral Home, Statesville, N.C. Survivors include her husband, J.P. Huskins; a daughter, Mrs. William Power; four sisters, four brothers, two grandsons, two stepgrandsons and three great-grandchildren. Johnson of 250 Dougherty St. died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Nancy Power and Dudley Bush and was the widow of Woodise Johnson.
