A native of Hall County, Mr. Alewine was a son of the late Joseph and Maggie McElreath Alewine and the widower of Elnora Smith Alewine. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Catherine Alewine and Norene Alewine Warren. He lived most of his life in Athens and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from being a self-employed auto mechanic and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include a son and his wife, Thurmond and Wilma Alewine, Athens; five grandchildren, Dianne Warren Hutchinson, Biloxi, Miss., Carol Warren Dunn and her husband, Ricky, and Alison Alewine Cearley and her husband, Tim, all of Athens; Chris Alewine McDonald and her husband, Todd, Statham, and Amy Alewine Luckey and her husband, Dale, Watkinsville; three great-grandchildren, Morgan McDonald, Collin McDonald and Lauren Luckey; and several nieces and nephews. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Ayers was a daughter of the late Parker H. and Alice Allen Holland and the widow of Joe M. Ayers. She was a homemaker and a member and former choir member of Reed Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Reed Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Hannah officiating. He was once affiliated with the Southern Railway System and later retired after 35 years at Coats and Clark in Toccoa.
