Born in Emmanuel County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Austin and Mary Branan Dixon. She was first married to the late Ralph Wilder and then to the late C.B. Akin. Mrs. Akin was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and taught at the Lavonia Grammar School. She was the oldest surviving member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church where she was a member of the W.S.C.S. and the Carrie Conwell Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Lavonia Garden Club and a member of the Lavonia Woman's Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James A., Marvin and Paul Dixon. Her survivors include a son, Ralph Wilder of Pinedale, Wyoming, and a daughter, Cynthia Wilder Bryant of Franklin Springs. Four granddaughters survive: Ginger Wilder Courneen, Townville, S.C., Kim Wilder Watson, Lavonia, Leigh Anne West Robinson, Kennesaw, and Louise D. Bryant, Franklin Springs. Funeral services for Mrs. Akin will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lavonia United Methodist Church with the Reverends Harold Lawrence, Fred Heard, Jack Lamb and Dr. Sheila B. Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens, North. The family members will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. Gertrude Arlene Bergeaux, 77, of Mollow Road died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998. A native of Long Island, N.Y., Mrs. Bergeaux was a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Secor Scholl and was the widow of Phillip James Bergeaux. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Bergeaux. She was a secretary, a homemaker and a longtime American Red Cross volunteer. She served as director of the Red Cross at Athens Regional Medical Center and was a member of The Lutheran Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Lois Phelps, Tullahoma, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Andrew Phelps, Nathaniel Phelps and Joseph Phelps. A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Bradley was a daughter of Harry and Dorothy Kaebisch Lustig and was the widow of Mike Bradley. She was owner of Classic Awards Trophy Shop. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Davison officiating. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a daughter, Sherry B. Mr. Cheatham was a son of the late Herman and Mattie Perry Cheatham. He was first married to the late Cora Lee martin Cheatham and was preceded in death by two sons, James Cheatham and Ellis Cheatham. He was a retired mechanic from Fowler Products, Athens, and a charter member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Pete Jackson Commerce James Clark "Pete" Jackson, 78, of 9015 Jefferson St. died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Jackson was a son of the late Clint and Annie Sue Stone Jackson. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Hudson Lodge 294 and Luthi-Gillespie American Legion Post 93. Mattie Mae Johnson Athens Mattie Mae Johnson, 89, formerly of Hill Street died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Henry Earl and Hattie Tiller Anthony and was the widow of Oliver G. Johnson. She had lived in this area all of her life and was a member of Christian Life Worship Center where she was a former Sunday School teacher of the junior class, was secretary-treasurer of Women's Ministries for a number of years and was a member of the Keen Age Sunday School Class. She worked at Athens Regional Medical Center as ward secretary for several years. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christian Life Worship Center with the Rev. John Ingham officiating. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Florence Johnston. An Army veteran of World War II, he was self-employed as a carpenter-contractor and a member of Noals Chapel Methodist Church.
