She was a secretary for the University of Georgia for 27 years and was a member of Bishop Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bridges Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her companion, Victor E. Casper; two daughters, Lynn Compton, Arnoldsville, and Catherine Ash Warren, Round Rock, Texas; a son, Ernest Ash, Atlanta; two sisters, Geraldine Mathis, Athens, and Shirley Higgins, Atlanta; a brother, Herman Lyle, Valdosta; two grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and nieces and nephews. Carter, 65, of Julia Lane Court died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Carter was a son of the late Johnny and Pearl Shelton Carter. He was an employee of Toccoa Service Gas for 10 years and a former employee of Trogdon Furniture for 35 years. He was a member of Toccoa Church of God. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Toccoa Church of God with the Revs. Harlon Noles, Dennis Rafala and Rodney Allen officiating. Burial will be in Roselane Cemetery. He was the founder and a retiree of E & W Heating and Air. He was a United States Navy veteran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired employee of Bowen and Watson Company and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was a retired stone cutter, a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater, and a lifelong member of the Veterans Foreign Wars. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Eaton, Terry Madden, and Senator Eddie Madden officiating. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Rowland was a daughter of the late Alonzo Church and Tallulah Cheney Hancock and the widow of Hampton Rowland. She was a teacher for Chase Street Elementary School and was principal in Winterville. She was the originator and director of the School for the Handicap, Margaret Hall. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a member of the Alumni Association and Athens First Presbyterian Church.
