Louise Cauthen Elder, 85, formerly of Athens, died Thursday, April 16, 1998. A native of Elberton, Mrs. Elder was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and and Montie Watson Cauthen. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, Athens. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens. Cornelia Malone Smyrna Cornelia Carlton Malone, 83, of 5049 Laurel Spring Way died Wednesday, April 15, 1998. A native of Greene County, Mrs. Malone was a daughter of the late Lorenzo D. and Louise Durham Carlton and widow of Joseph H. Malone. She was a homemaker and a member of Druid Hills Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point, with the Revs. Louie D. Carlton and Alvin Taylor officiating. Erford Mote Demorest The Rev. Erford Lee Mote, 84, of Bethel Temple Road died Thursday, April 16, 1998. A native of Habersham County, the Rev. Mote was a son of the late General and Marenda Stamey Mote. He was preceded in death by a son, Maxie Mote, and a great-grandson, Clayton Coleman. He was one of seven charter members of Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church, where he had been pastor. He also was pastor of churches in Yonah, Lula, Alto, Union Grove and Helen. He organized the Rock Quarry Church into the Congregational Holiness church and served as interim pastor at Mount Sinai. He was Toccoa District Pastor twice, served as general secretary of the Congregational Holiness church, served on the Union Grove Campground Committee twice and served on many general and North Georgia Conference Committees. He also worked 46 years at Habersham Mills. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Robert Cook, Wayne Hicks, Ronald Mote and Scott Mote officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Joseph Ramsey Washington Joseph Ramsey, 43, of 421 Salenist St. died Tuesday, April 14, 1998. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Ramsey was a son of Carrie M. Mrs. Williams was a native of Jackson County and widow of Roosevelt Williams. Winfrey's Mutual Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Lewis Williford Athens Lewis Willis Williford, 96, formerly of 210 Clover St. died Thursday, April 16, 1998. A native of Moultrie, Mr. Williford was the oldest child of John Henry Williford of the Paoli Community in Madison County and Caroline Lee Willis Williford of Dover Plantation in Greene County. Mr. Williford was raised and educated in Commerce and Madison County. He graduated from Madison A&M, after which he went west, working his way through Kansas and other western states before settling in Oregon. After graduating from the University of Oregon with majors in physics and chemistry, Mr. Williford resided in various Oregon cities for more than 43 years, where he operated a plant nursery and orchard, supervised a hospital X-ray department and worked for the Grange. Upon returning to Georgia in 1965, he began working with the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) as a relief supervisor of milk testing for the state. In 1974, DHIA presented Mr. Williford their prestigious Supervisor Award in recognition of his willingness to travel throughout the state, as well as to neighboring states in emergencies, and of his innovative practices and equipment, many of which are still used in the dairy industry today. The citation read in part, "The DHIA program in the state has greatly benefited from the dedicated service of this man." Mr. Williford was preceded in death by two sisters, Shelby Williford and Margaret Williford Shaw. Survivors are nephews, William Shaw, John Shaw and Eugene Williford, all of Miami; three nieces, Caroline Shaw, Miami, Jean Shaw-Lee, Portland, Ore., and Joan Leslie Williford, Hollywood, Fla.; and several cousins. Interment will be in the Williford family lot in Comer Cemetery. A memorial service will be at a later date for Mr. Williford, who is of the Baptist faith.
