Lois Booth Elberton Lois Kelley Booth, 76, of 1050 Old Petersburg Road died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Booth was a daughter of the late Richard and Allie Rousey Kelley. She was twice married, first to the late Ralph Fortson and second to Fred C. Booth, Elberton. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Bagwell officiating. The family is at the residence. Helen Dowis Elberton Mary Helen Grubbs Dowis, 80, formerly of 538 Woodland Road died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Dowis was twice married, first to the late George Brown, second to the late Wallace Dowis. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Seymour and Glenda Brown. She was a homemaker and a member of Elberton First Baptist Church. Frank Hector Watkinsville Frank Hector, 72, of 1060 Fuller Road died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Hector was a son of the late Millie C. Hector Jones and Otis Harris Hector Sr. He was a retired bus driver for the Oconee County school district. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. J. L. A native of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Norman was a daughter of Catherine Wehrheim Henegar, Florence, S.C., and the late Richard Henegar. She was a librarian at Jefferson City Public Library and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens, with the Rev. Jesse Rice Royston Jesse Henry Rice, 86, of 166 Franklin Springs Circle died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Rice was a son of the late Henry Harrison and Essie Frances Bond Rice. He was preceded in death by four daughters, Patricia Anne Rice Aaron, Barbara Jo Rice, Jessica Shirley Rice and Sandra Gail Rice Pinson, and 12 brothers and sisters. He was retired as a self-employed contractor. During World War II he was employed at the Mobile, Ala., Shipyard, worked for a number of years for the City of Royston and Franklin County and was a former justice of the peace. He was a member of Royston Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 17, 1998, at Royston Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Barton officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Southerland Sr. Atlanta Edwin W. Southerland Sr., 82, formerly of Athens, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998. A native of Jasper, Ala., Mr. Southerland was raised in Athens. He was a graduate of Athens High School, the University of Georgia and the UGA Law School. He also had a master's degree in taxation from George Washington University Law School. As an undergraduate, he was on the UGA tennis team and a member of the SAE fraternity. Upon graduation from Law School he briefly practiced law in Florida before the outbreak of World war II. During the war, he served in North Africa and Italy as an officer assigned to the U.S. Army Adjutant General Corps. He was honorably discharged as a major. After the war he worked for five years as an attorney for the IRS in Washington, D.C. He subsequently became assistant general counsel, in charge of tax affairs for Northern Pacific Railway (predecessor to Burlington Northern) in St. Paul, Minn. Starting in 1968, he and his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Lamkin Southerland (also from Athens, Ga.) co-founded several companies which purchased and successfully operated the Robert Half International franchises (specializing in financial personnel placements) in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens. Survivors include three daughters, Sarah Gerdine Southerland, Amherst, Va., and Susan Page Southerland and Ann Hamilton Southerland, both of Atlanta; two sons, Edwin W.
