A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Addington was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rosa Belle Collins Bell and widow of Hoke Thomas Addington Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Whitlock Mortuary, Toccoa, with the Revs. Jerry Stowe and Jack Sosby officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Randall (Nan) McClain and Mrs. Talmadge (Hazel) Owens, both of Toccoa; two sons, Charles W. Addington and Hoke T. Addington Jr., both of Toccoa; a sister, Eloise B. Morgan, Toccoa; two sisters-in-law, Irene Bell and Ruby Bell, both of Toccoa; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Glenn Owens, Ken Owens, Tim Addington, Guy Griswell, Joe Bell, Howard Bell, James Bell and Grady Bell. Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Building Fund. The body is at the mortuary where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. The family is at the residence. Maurine Crane Maysville Maurine H. Crane, 85, died Sunday, May 17, 1998. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Crane was a daughter of the late Wade and Ollie (Furr) Hill and the widow of George Crane. She was an LPN. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Swayne Carlan officiating. Burial will be in Diamond Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Larry Gowder, Maysville; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, from 7-9 p.m. today. Hershel Crook Royston Hershel J. Crook, 47, of 331 College St. died Thursday, May 14, 1998. A native of Hart County, Mr. Crook was a son of Lillie Mae Evans of Royston and the late J.C. Crook. He was a mechanic with King's Auto Alignment and was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Mike Crowe officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. Survivors include three sisters, Betty Stephens and Geneva Porterfield, both of Royston, and Kathleen Fowler, Bowersville; and two brothers, Billy Crook, Royston, and Roy Crook, Powdersville, S.C. Pallbearers will be Woodrow King, Jimmy Stephens, Randy Stephens, Larry Stephens, Jerry Crook and Leslie Royston. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today. The family is at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Crook, 811 College St., Royston. Marilyn Maddox Athens Marilyn Jeanette Maddox, 69, of 1504 E. Broad St. died Thursday, May 14, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Maddox was the daughter of the late Katie M. Martin and the granddaughter of the late Georgia Martin. She attended the public schools of Athens-Clarke County and Little Knox Institute. Following high school graduation, she did further study at Clarke College, Atlanta. She received her child care certificate from Athens Technical School. During her lifetime, Miss Jeanette wore many hats. She was a homemaker, a mother to many, a community advocate/activist, and a dedicated church worker. She belonged to many organizations, including local and state PTAs, Model Cities, Child Development Board of Directors, Community-Coordinated Child Care (4C's), and the Neighborhood Health Center Board, to name a few. Mrs. Maddox was a member of East Friendship Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Deaconess Board, the Mother Board and was a preschool teacher for Vacation Bible School. As founder of Humpty Dumpty Day Care Center, under the loving guidance of her mother, Miss Jeanette launched a child care career which spanned 39 years. Mrs. Maddox touched the lives of many over the course of her long, fruitful career, serving as a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit before the term became fashionable and in widespread use. Many of the children whose lives she helped shape are now parents, students, health professionals, supervisors, Legislators, secretaries, educators, civil workers, and much, much more. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at East Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. James Kendrick officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. The remains will be placed in the church at noon. Survivors include her husband, Juitt Maddox; two daughters, Marilyn Avigail (Charles) Favors, Athens, and Kathy Lynette Maddox, Augusta; a son, Martin Lucas (Penelope) Maddox, Winterville; a twin sister, Evelyn Lynette (Gary) Hawkins, Athens; an aunt, Evelyn George (John) Young, Brunswick; an uncle-in-law, James L. Brown, Athens; four stepchildren, the Rev. Charlie (Linda) Maddox and Alberta (Wayne) Lay, all of Athens, Anna (Joe) Steele, Ashville, N.C., and Donald Alzenna Maddox, Las Vegas; and 10 grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends. Winfrey's Mutual Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. David McCalla Greenwood, S.C. David Beverly McCalla, 72, of 118 Sheldon Ave. died Friday, May 15, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mr. McCalla was a son of the late John Earle and Kate Stephens McCalla. He attended Georgia Southern College and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. McCalla was retired from Jeff Hunt Machinery Company in Columbia. A member of South Main Street Baptist Church, he was also a member of Cayce Masonic Lodge #384. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Elberton, with the Revs. Dave Patterson and Ryan Eklund officiating. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan M. Williams, Greenwood, S.C., and Jennifer M. Flemming, Aiken, S.C.; a son, D. Bev McCalla Jr., Easley; and three grandchildren.
