"Stet" Bachelder Jr., 74, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998. A retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, Mr. Bachelder was the son of the late Guy Stetson Bachelder Sr. and Marion Gleason Bachelder. He was co-founder of Classic City Beverage, where he worked from 1946 to 1991. A member and former president of the Georgia Beer Association, he also was a member of the Athens Touchdown Club and the Athens County Club. Mr. Bachelder also was a member of the Athens posts of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Helen Power Bachelder, Athens; a son, Frank Bachelder, Athens; a daughter, Sandra Bradley Dorsey, Cleveland, Ga.; two stepsons, Steve Power and Bruce Power, both of Winder; a brother, Ted Bachelder, Waltham, Mass.; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and nine step-grandchildren. Joe Edward Balentine Elberton Joe Edward Balentine, 59, of 1207 Flatwood Road, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Born in Woodruff, S.C., Mr. Balentine was a son of the late Luther Randolph Balentine and Maude Grace Lanford Balentine. He was of the Baptist faith and a commercial fisherman. Mr. Balentine was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Fate Balentine and David Edward Balentine. Funeral services will be held by the family at a later date. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Balentine Stewart, Elberton; two sons, Randy Joe Balentine and Don Miles, both of Florida; three sisters, Dorise Beheller, Shirly Taylor and Sarah Richards, all of Florida; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mattie Novine Dye Athens Mattie Novine Dye, 82, of 321 Cherokee Ridge died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Dye lived most of her life in Athens and was the daughter of the late William F. and Minnie Lee McDaniel Casper and the wife of Aubrey M. Dye Sr. of Athens. She was in food service for 28 years with the DeKalb County and Clarke County school systems. She was a member of the Dorcus Sunday School Class at Central Baptist Church. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Murphy was a son of the late Jerry Washington and Minnie Mae Gaddis Murphy and was the widower of Jennie Leachman Murphy. He was of the Baptist faith. She lived most of her life in the Athens area, and was retired from General Time Corp., where she worked for 25 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Watkinsville. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Thomas E. Pritchett Cleveland Thomas Edward Pritchett, 62, formerly of Toccoa, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Pritchett he was a son of the late Charles Lewis and Atha Mae Meeks Pritchett and was married to Doris Williams Pritchett, Cleveland. He was a longtime member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, attend the University of Georgia and was and a former member of the National Guard. He was lead instructor of Pursuit and Defensive Driving School of the Georgia State Patrol since 1970, and visiting instructor of Federal Law Enforcement in Glynco. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Shayne "Eddie" Pritchett. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Whitlock Mortuary with the Revs. John Kesler and Dennis Kessler officiating. Burial will be Stephens Memorial Gardens.
