Elrod Jr. Maysville David C. Elrod, 61, of 53 Homer St. died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Elrod was a son of the late David Columbus and Mary Clementine Burk Elrod. He was a body and fender repairman. Services were Tuesday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Jerry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Annette Owensby Elrod; a daughter, Penny Lord, Maysville; a son, Steven Elrod, Maysville; a brother, B.T. Elrod, Commerce; and a grandchild. David Elrod Maysville David "Hershel" Elrod, 66, of 7904 Maysville Road died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Elrod was a son of the late David Columbus and Mary Clementine Burke Elrod. He was a body and fender repairman. Services were Tuesday in Sunrise Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Mitton officiating. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Smith Elrod; a son, Terry Elrod, Duluth; a brother, B.T. Elrod, Commerce; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, One Corporate Square, Atlanta, Ga. 30329. Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements. Walter 'Wash' Green Sr. Hull Walter Washington "Wash" Green Sr., 50, of 261 Howard Road died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Green was a son of the late Kathleen Williams Green and Dr. Donarell Green Jr. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Georgia, served in the Vietnam War, was a member of Alpha Pi Alpha fraternity and First African Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3910. He had obtained the rank as master trooper with the Georgia State Patrol. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First AME Church with the Rev. W.R. Wilkes Jr. officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Elberton. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolynn Green; a daughter, Kathleen Green, Watkinsville; two sons, Walter Washington Green Jr. and Claiborne Gordon Green, both of Watkinsville; three stepchildren, Michael McLean, Stevyn McLean and Stephanie Fuller, all of Hull; four sisters, Harriet Green Church and Wilucia Green, both of Athens, and Kayrell G. Clark and Margie Turner, both of Atlanta; a brother, Donarell Green III, Athens; and nieces and nephews. Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of arrangements. Charles Herty Hooper Sr. Atlanta Charles Herty Hooper, a long time resident of Athens who had lived with his son and family in Atlanta for the past two years, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. He was born in Mannheim, Germany, on April 5, 1904, while his father, William D. Hooper, a professor of Latin at the University of Georgia, was studying at Heidelberg University. Mr. Hooper was named for his uncle, Dr. Charles Holmes Herty, a noted scientist and educator who was the originator and first coach of the University of Georgia football team. Mr. Hooper's family moved back to Athens when he was five months old, and he lived here for most of his life. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1926, having been a member of the varsity tennis team in 1925-26. He attended graduate school at Yale University. He was employed at Southern Bell, Retail Credit Co., and during the 1930s he taught school at both Riverside and Darlington prep schools. He also served as assistant superintendent of the Civilian Conservation Corps camps in South Georgia, where he met his wife, Eloise. He was called to military active duty during World War II and remained in the Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He later retired from the University of Georgia, having held a number of administrative positions. He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Athens since 1952. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, with burial in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his son, Charles H. Hooper Jr., grandsons James E. Perry II, Daniel C. Perry, Charles H. Hooper III and Joseph P. Hooper, and son-in-law, Malcolm Flanagan. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hooper Bible Class of the First Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis Club of Athens. Survivors include daughter Eloise Hooper Flanagan of Carrollton, son Charles Herty Hooper Jr. of Atlanta, four grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 'Jack' Stovall Hartwell Andrew Jackson "Jack" Stovall, 86, of 2779 Ridge Road died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. A native of Hart County, Mr. Stovall was a son of the late Lester W. and Mallie Lewis Stovall and was the widower of Susie Mae Dooley Stovall. He was retired from the Georgia State Highway Maintenance Department and a farmer. He was a member of the Milltown Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Hulon Bryant and Luther Kay officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Stovall, of the home, and Linda Nix, Winder; a son, Gene Stovall, Hartwell; a sister, Ruby Massey, Hartwell; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Stovall, 789 Old U.S. Highway 29. Sidney Tidwell Macon Sidney Tidwell, 88, of 294 Buford Place died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. A native of Macon, Mr. Tidwell was a son of the late Arthur Walton and Nannie Smith Tidwell. He attended Mercer University and was a licensed funeral director retired from Snow's Memorial Chapels. He was a member of Vineville Baptist Church, Baraaca Sunday School Class, Macon Masonic Lodge 5, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Macon Lions Club, Macon Touchdown Club and the Al Sihah Shrine Temple, where he was a member of the Jester's Club. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Riverside Cemetery with the Revs. Ben Hagood, Ron Holland and Loyd Landrum officiating. Survivors include his wife, Irene Farren Tidwell; three daughters, Stella T. Avret, Decatur, Edwina T. Ferguson, Athens, and Sidney T. Milner, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Marion T. Packard, Nashua, N.H.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family is at the residence. Frances Wright Winder Frances Boyd Wright died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. Mrs. Wright was the widow of Lefus V. Wright. She attended Wesleyan College, Macon, and was a graduate of Atlanta Law School. She was a non-practicing attorney and a former member of the Georgia State Barber and Beauty Board. She had operated businesses in Walton and Barrow counties. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Rary officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Dottie V. Nader, Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home. Marie Randolph Athens Marie Randolph of 220 Glenhaven Ave. died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998.
