Dodd Athens Mary A. Dodd, 76, of 866 Fuller Road died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. A native of Wilson, Ark., Mrs. Dodd was a daughter of the late Hugh and Leota Bullard Anglin. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a member of Galilee Christian Church, Jefferson. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Christian Church with the Revs. Harvey Boyd and Eric Frazier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Edward M. Dodd; three daughters, Marie Lord, Athens, Debbie Pethel, Jefferson, and Yvonne Settles, Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Frances Mize, Gainesville, and Ola Ruark, Loganville; a brother, Clyde Anglin, Watkinsville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jamie Holton Winder Jamie Louis "Pokey" Holton, 45, 361 A Lumpkin St. died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Mr. Holton was a son of Juanita Crumbley of Winder. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at White Oak Spring Baptist Church with Evangelist Mae Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Garden. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Barbara Ann Holton; seven children, Lavetta Jewell, Sonja Thurmond, Tamika Holton and Jamieia Holton, all of Athens, Calvin Jennings, Winder, Garo Sheats, Monroe, and Tashania Riden, Lawrenceville; six sisters, Yolanda Barksdale, Pensacola, Fla., Louise Watson and Jackie Hunt, both of Winder, and Sabrina Youngblood, Katrina Green and Diane Cox, all of Atlanta; seven brothers, Mark Holton, Winder, Arthur Holton, Athens, and Cedric Crumbley, Gregory Holton, Stanley Holton and Leon Benton, all of Atlanta; and nine grandchildren. Evelyn Hornby Athens Evelyn Texley Hornby, 94, of 595 University Drive died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, four days before her 95th birthday. A native of Newman Grove, Neb., Mrs. Hornby lived much of her life in Seattle, Washington, before moving to Athens in 1980. She was the oldest of three daughters of Ole G. and Mary Fodnes Texley. She attended the University of Nebraska, taught for a time in rural schools, was an executive secretary, and later retired from the Washington State Highway Department. She was a member of the Episcopal Church (St. Mark's Cathedral Parish - Seattle) and a volunteer with the Emmanuel Thrift House in Athens. Throughout her life she was sustained by a deep faith in God. She was fiercely independent, a woman of great inner strength, integrity and compassion. Her droll sense of humor served her well and was a great delight to all who knew her. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Athens, with Father Eddie Ard officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Hornby Wiebe, of Athens; a grandson, Sam Wiebe and his wife, Vonda, Snellville; a granddaughter, Lisa Wiebe Audino and her husband Rob, Perth, Australia; a granddaughter, Muffie Wiebe Waterman and her husband Scott, Campbell, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Chloe Audino, Chad Audino, Madison Wiebe and Brennen Salmon. A native of Hart County, Mr. Hulme was a son of the late Francis and Frances Williford Hulme. He was preceded in death by a son, Chris Hulme. He was a disabled veteran and a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Hart County Jaycees. He was of the Holiness faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Gray and Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Garden of Prayer. Survivors include four sons, Jason Hulme and Chad Hulme, both of Lavonia, Doug Hulme, Anderson, S.C., and Bo Hulme, Iva, S.C.; and three brothers, Joe Hulme and Alton Hulme, both of Hartwell, and I.V. McElroy, 74, of 190 Janice Drive died Wednesday, June 17, 1998. A native of Madison County, Mr. McElroy was a son of the late Sidney and Pauline Strickland McElroy, and was preceded in death by a brother, S.T. McElroy. He was a self-employed contractor and had attended Prince Avenue Baptist Church. He also was a member of The Elks Lodge 790, Athens. Funeral services will be held today, June 19, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Bill Ricketts and Ray Finger officiating. A native of Greene County, Ms. Thornton was a daughter of the late Gad and Lula Gatlin Thornton. She was preceded in death by a son, Willie B. Thornton.
