A native of Franklin County, R. Bruce was a son of the late A.J. and Macie Brock Bruce. An Army veteran of World War II, he was an active member of Lavonia United Methodist Church, where he was a member of Homer Gaines Sunday school class and held numerous leadership positions. He presently was serving on the board of directors of the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Lavonia Lions Club and Lavonia Post 92 of the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of Lavonia Post 5897 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a retired textile supervisor having served 27 years at Coats and Clark, Toccoa, and was associated with WABCO in Toccoa for a number of years. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Lavonia UMC with the Revs. Dr. Sheila Bookout, Lisa Caine and Richard Bielski officiating. Burial will be in Lavonia City Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Gaines Bruce; a daughter, Beverly Thompson, Lavonia; a son, Doyle Clifford "Chip" Bruce Jr., Lavonia; two sisters, Divilla Smith, Toccoa, and Doris Rainwater, Cumming; and four grandchildren. Box 176, Lavonia, Ga. 30553. William Dickerson Toccoa William Leroy Dickerson, 77, of Whispering Pines Road died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Dickerson was a son of the late Thomas and Lilly Woods Dickerson. He was a carpenter and a painter and of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. David Ledford officiating. Burial will be in Mount Bethel Church of God Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Milde, Mammoth Springs, Ark., and Myra Dickerson, Toccoa; four sons, Kirk Dickerson, Henry Dickerson, Lee Dickerson and Michael Dickerson, all of Toccoa; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. The family members are at their respective homes and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Larry Gillespie Sr. Marietta Larry Gene Gillespie Sr. died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. A native of Elberton, Mr. Gillespie was a son of the Rev. Jack and Mary Bradley Gillespie of Marietta. He was president of Gillespie Technology Inc. Engineer Consulting Firm and had an associate degree from Clemson and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Southern Tech. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at East Cobb UMC with the Rev. E.J. McDonald and Dr. Jamie Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Langley was a daughter of the late J.C. and Mary Swords Austin. She was a member of Winder Christian Church and a former employee of Winder-Barrow Hospital. Ronald Leach Atlanta Ronald James "Ron" Leach, 37, of 784 Ponce De Leon Place, formerly of Athens, died Monday, March 16, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Leach was a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and the University of Georgia, where he received a degree in business administration. He received his master's degree at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He worked for the Federal Thrift Board and the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington. He was employed as a technical writer and consultant and had served as a consultant for Jamison Inn, Digital Equipment, Arthur Anderson Co. and U.P.S. He was very active in the Atlanta Track Club and as a member of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rob Leach. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Hannah officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his parents, Richard and Patricia Mauser Leach, Athens; a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Nancy B. McDonald, 1281 Meriweather Drive, Bogart. James A. Moore Colbert Mr. James A. "Papa James" Moore, 76, of 193 Peachtree St. died Wednesday, March 18, 1998. A native of Madison County, James was born July 28, 1921, a son of the late John C. and Sally Mae Hammond Moore. He was a member of Colbert Baptist Church. James served in the United States Army, attached to the Ninth Air Force. During his military career, he served in Northern France during World War II. James married Jeanelle Patton on Aug. 15, 1952, and worked in construction until his retirement in 1971. Following his retirement, James enjoyed spending time with the children in Miss Jeanelle's Day Care. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Colbert Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Colbert City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jeanelle; a daughter and son-in-law, Darthula and Charles Allen Lee, Hull; a son and daughter-in-law, James A. A native of White County, Mrs. Murphy was a daughter of the late Tom and Leona McEntyre Watkins and the widow of Paul Murphy Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Reeves, 71, of 742 Ridgewood Drive died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. A native of Fulton County, Mr. Reeves was a son of the late Elbert P. and Addie Lee Reeves. He was twice married, first to the late Sue Scoggins Reeves. He was a member of Kennesaw Masonic Lodge 33 and Greers Chapel Baptist Church, a former member of Hartwell Golf Club and an Army veteran of World War II. She was a member of Barrow County Senior Citizen's Group, Barrow County Historical Society and Statham Baptist Church, and a retired senior volunteer with Athens Community Council on Aging.
