Marcus Bryant Athens Mrs. W. Marcus Bryant, 83, of 135 Pineview Drive, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998. Born March 2, 1915, in Richton, Miss., Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late Mr. Richard Leland Milner and Perrie Lou Ford. She was married to William Marcus Bryant on Nov. 18, 1944 and moved to Athens in 1961. She attended Jones Junior College in Ellisville, Miss., and was a member of First Baptist Church and an active member of the church choir. She was connected with the University of Georgia as an administrative secretary for 20 years until she retired in 1984, and she was an active member of the Pilot Club of Athens. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bridges Funeral Home with Dr. Jon Appleton, pastor of Athens First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, at 3:30 p.m. Friday. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Mary Anne Barton, Covington, La.; a son, Leland Marshal Bryant, Grand Canyon, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Adella Milner, Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, Shauna Rebecca Bryant, Natalie Anne Bryant, Marcus Bradley Bryant and Preston Jacob Bryant, all of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two nieces, Edith Harrison Roth, Thomson, and Mary Lou Cockrell, Flagstaff, Ariz.; and one nephew, James Edward Harrison, Augusta. The family will receive friends 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Athens First Baptist Church or to the Friends of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, 2450 S. Milledge Ave., Athens, GA 30605. Katherine W. Cox Statham Katherine W. Cox, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998. Mrs. Cox was a daughter of the late Jessie Arthur and Willie M. Sexton and the widow of Vivian Cox. She was a housewife and a member of Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Butler officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include a son, Charles T. Cox of Watkinsville; three sisters, Betty Lowery, Erlene Self and Lucile Stubblefield, all of Ringgold; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ina Rhea Mazzini Athens Ina Rhea Mazzini, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998. A native of Breckinridge, Ky., Mrs. Mazzini was a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas and Nettie Dennison Frank and the widow of Alfred E. Mazzini. She graduated from Williamsville High School in 1929 in Williamsville, Ill. She worked for Block and Kuhl for three years as a buyer. She was later employed for five years with Schradski in Peoria, Ill., and Myers Brothers in Springfield, Ill., from 1946 to 1973. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware's Grove Church, Butler, Ill. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Ill. Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Rehner, Athens; a sister, Goldie Zillion, Washington, Ill.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. ''Jack'' Smith, 65, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Johnny Isaac Newton and Gertrude McCollum Smith and was the widower of Linda Rodgers Smith, Cornelia. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and the Adam and Eve Sunday School class. He was a U.S. Army veteran and the owner and operator of S&M Used Cars, Baldwin. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Whitfield Funeral Home, Baldwin, with the Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Burial will be in Level Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Linda Rodgers Smith; three daughters, Denise Heaton, Sandy Run, S.C., Melinda Shumpert, West Columbia, S.C., and Sheila Wood, Cleveland; a son, Howard Wood, Demorest; and five grandchildren. Lelia L. Watkins Athens Lelia Lea Perkins Watkins, 71, of 201 Beverly Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998. A native of Halifax, Va., Mrs. Watkins was a daughter of the late Harry Lea and Bessie Valentine Russell Perkins. She lived in the Athens area for 37 years and was retired from Reliance Electric. She was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Peggy Little officiating. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, William Hershel Watkins; two daughters, Lynda Rocamora, Glendale, Calif., and Teresa Howe, Lawrenceville; three sons, James Smith Jr., Glendale, Calif., Paul Watkins, Commerce, and Danny Watkins, Connecticut; one sister, Barbara Ann Austin, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. Mary Sue Watkins Hartwell Mary Sue Tate Watkins, 57, of 825 Benson St., died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998. A native of Cherokee County, Ala., she was a daughter of Cleivedell Covia Tate Butler, Hartwell, and the late Leroy L. Tate and was the widow of Earl W. Watkins. She was a former employee of Wal-Mart and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Memorial Garden of Prayer with the Rev. Ted Kelly officiating. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two daughters, Susan M. Richardson, Villa Rica, and Tammy M. Morefield, Florida; two brothers, Paul J. Tate, Gastonia, N.C., and Harold L. Ernest Williams Toccoa Ernest Williams, 92, of 227 Queen St., died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998. A native of Rabun County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late James Walter and Dovie Harvey Williams and was married to Genevieve Carpenter Williams, Toccoa. He was retired from Habersham Mills and was co-owner of Mountain View Nursery. He was a member of Habersham Baptist Church, the Adult Men's Sunday School Class, The Brotherhood and served as deacon for many years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Habersham Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Thomas and Ernest Ivester officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Burpee officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four brothers, Edgar Williams, Harold Williams and Lloyd Williams, all of Toccoa, and Marvin Williams of Demorest.
