A native of Raleigh Wake, N.C., Mr. Brooks was a son of Martha Bingham Brooks and the late John Jerry Brooks. He was a roofer employed by Oakwood Roofing Co. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Winder Barrow Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jonny Flowers officiating. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Sheila Marie Kennedy Brooks; two daughters, Stephanie Nicole Brooks and Brittany Brooks, both of N.C.; a son, Austin Brooks, Maysville; two sisters, Sandy Scarborough and Christie Brooks, both of Four Oaks, N.C.; three brothers, Christopher Brooks and Jeffery Brooks, both of Coats, N.C., and Gerald Brooks, Four Oaks, N.C.; and a stepfather, Gerald Wade Brooks. Pallbearers will be Wayne Loggins, Greg Hamilton, Mike Scarborough, Joey Ruggles, Danny Carver Jr., and Homer Carver. Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements. Dorsey Cofer Athens Dorsey Cofer, 80, of 1218 Hull Road died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. A native of Hancock County, Mr. Cofer was a son of the late Ernest L. and Gussie Pace Cofer. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a World War II veteran of the 8th Air Force. He was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church, however, he attended the Winterville First Baptist Church. He had previously been at Rodgers Hosiery Mill and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2872. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Winterville First Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Standard officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Frances Hardeman Cofer; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Terrell Hayes, Winterville; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Jerry Anne Cofer, Athens; four grandchildren, Missy Rice, Michele Rice, Amy Moore and Lori Cochran; and three great-grandchildren, A.J. Rice, Hailey Moore and Sommer Moore. Pallbearers will be Randall Cofer, Stanley Hardeman, David Langford, Steve Williamson, Randy Ray and David Adams. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home. Martha Davis Athens Martha A. Davis, 82, of 1241 Hull Road died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998. Mrs. Davis, a native of Clarke County, was the daughter of the late Herman G. and Myrtle Bruce Adair and the widow of Hugh Dorsey Davis. She was preceded in death by a brother, Chester P. Adair and grandson, Scott Merck. Mrs. Davis was a member of Hull Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Homemakers Class and WMU. Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at 11:00 a.m. at Hull Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Adair, Billy Aiken, Lloyd Carter, Paul Chandler, James Norton and Lawrence Tolbert. Honorary pallbearers will be Homemakers Sunday School Class. Edge, 73, of 109 First St. died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998. A native of Hall County, Mr. Edge was a son of the late Alpeus and Etta Edge. Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Charles Crabbe and William G. Thomason officiating. Burial will be in Bethabra Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Martha Edge; a daughter, Pat Voyles, Hoschton; a son, Doug Edge, Gainesville; two brothers, Hoyt L. Edge, Chicopee, and Fred E. Karen Everett Statham Karen Everett, 56, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Everett was a daughter of the late C.D. and Hattie Bradley Hall. She was a pharmacy technician employed by Eckerd Drugs, Winder, and was a member of Midway Christian Church. Services will be 4 p.m. today at Midway Christian Church with the Revs. John Birchfield and Hal Tapp officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include her husband, Eldridge Everett; a daughter, Cindy Barton, Bogart; a son, Ray Everett, Statham; two sisters, Gloria Freeman, Statham, and Helen Chancy, Gainesville; two brothers, Jack Hall and Nathaniel (Nat) Hall, both of Winder; and four grandchildren. A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Harry Shelby and Fannie Louise Smith. She was employed by St. Mary's Hospital and was a member of True Gospel Light House. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. John Bratcher Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. John Henry Murray Toccoa John Henry Murray, 85, of Anderson Road died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Murray was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Murray Sr. and was the widower of Hazel Hunter Murray. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nina Hosea, and two sons, Billy Rae and Louie Murray. He retired from the Stephens County Road Dept. after 35 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Revs. Roger Elrod, George Dean and Layman Lee Sullens officiating. Burial will be in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Ann Patterson, Johnnie Davis, and Gail Murray, all of Toccoa; two sons, Roger Murray and James Otha Murray, both of Toccoa; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pitts Toccoa Charles Henry Pitts, 57, of Black Mountain Road died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Pitts was a son of the late Cecil and Clara Belle Powers Pitts. He was employed in the maintenance department of Toccoa Golf Club and attended Shady Grove Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Revs. Michael Holbrooks and W.L. (Bill) Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Gladell Martin Pitts; three daughters, Diane Marcengill, Gray Court, S.C., and Teresa Carter and Lacilla Gibson, both of Toccoa; five sisters, Dorothy Yearwood, Dawsonville, Carolyn Holbrooks and Annette Holbrooks, both of Cumming, and Louise Moore and Linda Pitts, both of Greenville, S.C.; his mother-in-law, Lillian Martin, Eastanollee; and four grandchildren. James Junior Ray Homer James Junior Ray, 69, of Berlin Road died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. A native of Homer, Mr. Ray was a son of the late Maude Sarah "Jump" and Jim Grover Ray. He was retired from the saw mill, and was a member of Bethany Christian Church and of Hollingsworth Lodge No. 355 F.&A.M. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bethany Christian Church with the Rev. William Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Grace Ray; two daughters, Joyce Ausburn and June Carlan, both of Homer; five sisters, Thelma Barrett, Lula, Violet Davis, Homer, Fannie Leatherwood, Gastonia, N.C., Rose McConnell, Oakwood, and Margie Slater, Gainesville; and a brother, A.J. Ray, Lincolnton, N.C.; and a grandson. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Riley Whitlock Crawford Riley Whitlock, 64, of 865 Union Point Road, died Sept. 18, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late Grace Puckett and the adopted son of the late John and Rosetta Smith Whitlock. He was a carpenter and a veteran of the United States Army. He had lived in Oglethorpe County all of his life and was a member of Burts United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at 3:30 p.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East. The Revs. John Alexander, Linda Jones and Curtis Hammond will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Mary McCannon Whitlock of Crawford; brothers- in law and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Lucy McCannon of Stephens, William McCannon of Arnoldsville, and Jean Bryant of Lexington; cousin, Douglas Partridge of Winterville; several half-brothers and half-sisters, several nieces and nephews.
