A native of Hickory, N.C., Mrs. Blackshear was a daughter of Avery Hill and Laura Elizabeth Welch Whitener and the widow of Hinton Baker Blackshear, whom she married in Atlanta in 1926. She was preceded in death by five siblings. Nora was a resident of Atlanta for 60 years, a resident of Athens for the past 12 years and a member of Athens First Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Rutherford College in North Carolina. As an ardent civic and garden club leader and competent genealogist, she served her community as a devoted member of Atlanta's First Presbyterian Church, President of the Fifty District of the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs, founder and charter member of Cherokee Chapter Daughters of the Amerian Revolution, President, Atlanta Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, Magna Carta Dames, Daughters of 1812 and a founder and President of the Peachtree Creek Club. During World War II, she served as a Red Cross Staff Assistant. For a number of years she managed an antique shop in Griffin and was a realtor on Atlanta's North Side. She was listed in Who's Who Among Women of the South. Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Blackshear Boardman, Athens, grandsons, William Hinton Boardman, Athens, and David Robeson Boardman, Madison, and a granddaughter, Katherine Anne Boardman, Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be at 2 p..m. Sunday in Bernstein Chapel with Dr. Joseph W. Berry officiating with graveside services at 10 a.m. Monday in West View Cemetery, Atlanta. Betty Bridges Greensboro Betty Carlan Bridges, 67, of 11 Fox Chase Circle died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998. A native of Greene County, Mrs. Bridges was a daughter of the late Gertrude Dominy and Elsie Carlan and the widow of Cornelius Bridges. She was retired after 22 years at Wellington Puritan and was a member of Oconee Baptist Church and the Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Siloam Cemetery, Siloam, with the Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Bridges Jarrard, Siloam; a son, Toombs Bridges, Gainesville; two sisters, Lavera Akins and Ruth George, both of Greensboro; a brother, Bob Carlan, Greensboro; and three grandchildren. Louise Cole Birmingham, Ala. Louise Morton Cole, 98, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998. A native of Athens, Mrs. Cole was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames, and served on the Board of the Birmingham Museum of Art. Roy Crawford Watkinsville Roy Milton Crawford, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998. A native of Hancock County, Mr. Crawford was a son of the late Guy and Ruby Eberhart Crawford and the widower of Martha Ann McRee Crawford. He was a member of Watkinsville First Christian Church and connected was retired after 35 years at Puritan Mills. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Franklin Shumake and the Rev. Ben S. Parker officiating. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Fleming was a daughter of Fannie Fleming of Athens and the late Grady Fleming. She was a retired administrative assistant for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of New Grove Baptist Church, Winterville. A native of Neubruken, Germany, Mr. Wentzel was a son of James and June Clausen Wentzel of Bishop. He was connected with the physical plant at the University of Georgia for a number of years. He was a cattle and poultry farmer, a member of Vineyards creek Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. "Billy" Yarbrough, 63, of 2623 Athens Highway died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Yarbrough was a son of the late Rufus and Lillie Gunter Yarbrough. He was an auctioneer and was employed in the granite industry for a number of years. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was twice married, first to the late Wadine Saxon Yarbrough. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hicks Funeral Home with the Revs. Randall Starrett and Ron Newberry officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
