"MUFF" Brooks, 84, of 1400 Daniels Bridge Road, died Friday, March 20, 1998. A native of Athens, Mrs. Brooks was a daughter of the late George and Hattie Scott Bradley and widow of Fred D. Brooks. She lived in Athens most of her life and was retired after more than 25 years at Chicopee Mill. She was a member of Ashford Memorial Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Revs. Bob Smith and Waymon Carter officiating. Burial will be in Colbert City Cemetery. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred Dempsey and Sara Brooks, Charlotte, N.C., and the Rev. Bobby F. and Shirley Brooks, Athens; a brother, Jot Bradley, Hephzibah; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Frank Brooks, Darrell Brooks, F.D. Sarah Childs Commerce Sarah Benton Childs, 41, of 4803 Highway 335, died Friday, March 20, 1998. A native of Mercer County, Penn., Mrs. Childs was a daughter of Sarah Pauline Sharman Benton of Athens and the late James M. Benton Sr. She attended Gainesville College and was a homemaker and a member of the Farm Bureau Women Committee, Erastus Christian Church and CWF of the church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Erastus Christian Church with the Rev. Keith Weekley and Sammy Childs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Jerry Childs; two sisters, Deborah Benton, Burrington, Ill., and A. Sharman Finnerman, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a brother, James M. Benton Jr., Statesboro; and three nephews. John Dove Danielsville John Dove, 77, of Route 3, Box 3466, died Friday, March 20, 1998. A native of Madison County, Mr. Dove was a son of the late Steve and Vallie Graham Dove. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bertha Mae Dove. He was a retired farmer, retired from General Times and of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Williard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family is at the residence. William Hicks Lawrenceville William Loyd Hicks, 81, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Hicks was a son of the late Oscar and Mattie Stovall Hicks. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Silveus, and a grandson, Craig William Silveus. He was employed for 32 years with Goodyear Tire Co. and was a member of Akron Baptist Temple in Akron, Ohio, and Joppa Lodge 666 F&AM in Akron, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Kenneth Moon and Dr. Perry Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Toms Creek Baptist Church. Bertha Kimberley Athens Bertha Emma Litke Kimberley, 87, of 518 Cherokee Ridge, died Sunday, March 15, 1998. A native of New Britain, Conn., Mrs. Kimberley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She held many zone and district offices in the Florida-Georgia District of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She died at Arrowhead Nursing Center in Jonesboro, Ga., on her 87th birthday. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. David Bernthal and Florida-Georgia District Pastors officiating. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. W.A. Kimberley, former pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church of Athens and former District vice president; a daughter, Sharon Kimberley, Dallas, Texas, a management consultant with the Thomas Group in Dallas; a sister, Elsie McQueeney, New Britain, Conn.; a brother, Otto Litke, Southington, Conn.; and nieces and nephews in Connecticut. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Temple was a daughter of the late W.L. and Loretta Bowers Hayes. She was owner and operator of Miss Melba's Kiddie Kollege, which she ran from 1943 to 1993. She was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church, Ruth Sunday school class, Fellowship of Christian Seniors and a former Sunday school teacher for the junior department. She was a charter member and past-president of the Madora Garden Club, a life member of the Garden Club of Georgia, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, past-regent of the John Benson Chapter, member of the UDC, Hartwell Women's Club, American Poets Guild, Writer's Group of Hartwell and a former correspondent for the Anderson Independent and Hartwell Sun. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartwell First Baptist Church with Dr. Hugh Kirby and Walter Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edna Thompson Brewster, and a grandson, Timothy Brewster. She was a homemaker and a member of Hull Baptist Church.
