A native of Indianapolis, Mr. Cartey was the son of the late Roscoe C. and Ruth McElreath Cartey and widower of Hazel Louise Cartey. He was owner and operator of Cartey Electric for more than 40 years, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Athens Freewill Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, with the Revs. J.L. Peyton and Bill Ricketts officiating. Burial will in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Stiles, Athens; two sons, Keith Cartey, Athens, and Jason Cartey, Bogart; and five grandsons. Nykiara Coleman Athens Nykiara Coleman, infant daughter of Catrina Coleman, of 181 Herring St., died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998. Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cleo G. Kendrick Athens Cleo Gresham Kendrick, 57, of 208 Lombardy Circle, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998. A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Kendrick was a daughter of the late Lizzie Mae and Cleve Johnson and wife of Curtis Kendrick, Athens. She was a machine operator and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rayle. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. James McIvey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Davenport McLendon Mortuary, Washington, is in charge of arrangements. Rose Mauser Athens Rose Ann O'Buch Mauser, 89, of 190 Gentry Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998. A native of Czechoslovakia, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O'Buch and the widow of Burton Truman Mauser. She had lived in Athens for 22 years and was a retired hospital dietitian. She was of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by a son, James Mauser, and two grandsons, Ron Leach and Rob Leach. A memorial service will held be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Lanier Gardens with Father James Williams officiating. Survivors include one son, Thomas Mauser, Daytona Beach, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Richard Leach, Athens, and Carolyn and Joe Marczak, Duluth; grandchildren, Rick Leach, formerly of Athens, and Dina and Dr. Jim McDonald, Bogart; and a great-grandson, Jackson McDonald, Bogart. A native of Oconee County, S.C., Mr. Pitts was a son of the late Gussie and Kelley Pitts, and husband of Ostine Simmons Pitts, Toccoa. He was employed with Trogdon Furniture Co. for 15 years, was a farmer and owned Pitts Produce Market. He was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Clifton Pitts, in 1977. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitlock Mortuary, with the Revs. Ernest Ivester and Joel Bradberry officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. Slaughter Woodville Maggie Pittman Slaughter, 96, formerly of 282 Holman Ave., Athens, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Slaughter was a daughter of the late William and Eva Pittman and wife of Asa Candler Slaughter, Woodville. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Beth Haven Cemetery, Athens, with the Rev. David Perkins officiating. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sisters, Mattie Lou Farmer and Florence Johnston, both of Athens; one brother, Ed Pittman, Jacksonville, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a self-employed real-estate developer. The remains have been cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.
