Michael Hester Anderson, 47, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997. Mr. Anderson was a son of the late Charles D. and Margaret Anderson of Athens. He was a carpenter and a brick mason. Burial was in the Fields-Carter Family Cemetery, Arnoldsville. The National Cremation Society was in charge of arrangements. Buck Bailey Toccoa C.H. "Buck" Bailey Jr., 87, of 410 North Boulevard died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998. A native of Loganville, Mr. Bailey was a son of the late Hattie Lou McDaniel and C.H. Bailey Sr. and the widow of Roberta McNeely Bailey. He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Bailey. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of Young Harris College and was active in the college's alumni association. He was involved in the furniture business with McNeely & Co. for many years and later retired from Sears, was a member of First United Methodist Church of Toccoa and the Wesley Sunday School Class, and had served on the administrative board of the church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at First UMC of Toccoa with the Revs. Bob Partridge and Jack Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursdy. Hattie Brawner Carnesville Hattie Inez Brawner, 90, of 7630 Athens Road died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Miss Brawner was a daughter of the late James Wesley and Sarah Ballenger Brawner. She was a homemaker and a member of Middle River Baptist Church. Mr. Brooks was the widow of Mary Carolyn Brooks. He served in World War II and was a retired heavy equipment operator for Concrete Construction Co. "Dusty" Dyar, 86, of Highway 441 North, Hollingsworth Community, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Dyar was a son of the late Jim and Margaret Tollison Dyar. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was retired after 30 years as a bus driver for Trailways, Inc., and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and Banks County Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons. She taught home economics at Carnesville High School and, with her husband, operated a store in Carnesville. She was a member of Carnesville Baptist Church. Andrew Jackson Losier, 87, of 1006 Oak Cliff Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998. A native of Pittsburgh, the Rev. Losier was a son of the late Andrew J. and Emma Wickline Losier and the widower of Dorothy Lehman Losier. He was a graduate of Wheaton College and Dallas Theological Seminary. He served in mission work in Africa for 44 years and was the founder of Christian Literature & Bible Center Inc., where he distributed Christian literature and Bibles worldwide. He was a member of and Sunday School teacher at Liberty Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hill Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Albert Hudson and Paul Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Toccoa City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Jack Ratley Carnesville Jack Ratley, 82, of 15900 Georgia Highway 59 died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998. A native of Newton, Ala., Mr. Ratley was a son of the late Wattice Ralph and Julia Lee Ratley and the widow of Mildred Sanders Ratley. He attended Georgia Teacher's College in Statesboro on a baseball scholarship and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in education and education administration, respectively, from the University of Georgia. He lived in Carnesville from 1937 until his retirement in 1977, and served as teacher, baseball and basketball coach, and principal of the old Franklin County High School and later Carnesville Elementary. In 21 years as basketball coach, his teams won 352 games and four district championships; two teams were undefeated. He had served as president of regional Georgia Education Association, a member of the Executive Committee of the Georgia High School Association, and life member of the Parent Teacher Association and the local and state retired teacher's associations. He was a charter member of the Carnesville Lions Club, a Mason, and a member of Carnesville United Methodist Church, joining in 1937, where he served as a stewart and Sunday School superintendent for three decades. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Carnesville UMC with the Rev. Rebecca Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include his son, David Ratley, Macon; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
