Bob Lindsey was a kind, gentle, sincere and generous man whose smiling face brought joy and relief to those he touched. His love for others was very often put into action as it is shown in the following article that appeared in the Athens Banner-Herald: I would like to compliment the service I received from Mr. Bob Lindsey, pharmacist at the Eckerd Drug Store in Athens Square on the Atlanta Highway. I was seriously bitten by a dog on Saturday, May 5, while outside Bogart. I wrapped my foot in paper towels and began the drive into Athens to seek treatment. I stopped at Eckerd's to purchase some peroxide to rinse my wounds. As I approached the pharmacy to briefly discuss my problem and ask the location of peroxide, Mr. Lindsey, pharmacist on duty, immediately came out from behind the counter, kneeled on the floor and put my foot on his knee. After examining the wounded area with concern, he sat me down and went behind the counter. He returned within seconds, cutting a clean plastic jug in half with a knife. He placed my foot in the jug and began rinsing the wounds with peroxide. After thoroughly cleaning my foot, he got gauze, scissors and tape out of his first aid kit and bandaged the affected area. Mr. Lindsey warned me about the danger of infection from a bit and reminded me several times that the bandage was in no way intended to be treatment but was merely to keep the wounds clean until I could secure medical services in Athens. When I was seen at Gilbert Health Service at the university, about an hour later, the attending physician said that the wounded area was very clean and well cared for. I would like to commend Mr. Lindsey on his dedication in the field of medicine. His service to me may have made the difference in the onset of infection. Thank you, Mr. Bob Lindsey. Signed, A Reader. Bob Lindsey was loved by many, many people. He will be missed by all. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Carolyn H.
