Dr. Adams was a daughter of the late Frank Armstrong and Viola Paul Knowles. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville, and Emory University School of Medicine. Her professional career included work at the Emory University Student Health Service and the Regional Office of the Veterans Administration. Dr. Adams was very active in civic and community activities including serving on the Board for Metropolitan Area Council on Alcohol and Drugs. Her ready wit and deep insight into problems and issues made her a popular speaker for the Council all over the states. She originated the Neighboring Hearts Program for the mental hospitals in the State of Georgia. She served as president of the Alumni Association of the Georgia State College for Women and was on the Board of the Atlanta Lung Association. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston, Ga., with the Rev. Don Shoup officiating. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Charles Pulliam Adams Sr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Panos Kanes, Decatur; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Charles P. Adams Jr. and Susan Adams, Jacksonville, Fla., and Dr. Arthur F. Adams and Jenny Adams, Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, David Knowles, Augusta; and six grandchildren, Jessica Kanes and Lindsey Kanes, both of Decatur, Kelsey Adams and Ben Adams, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Matthew Adams and Samuel Adams, both of Knoxville. Pond St. died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Blackmon was a son of the late Floyd and Sarah Gill Blackmon. An Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he was retired from Quality Foods of Toccoa and was a Baptist. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Whitlock Mortuary with the Revs. Thomas Watson and Leroy Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens. Ieunice Davenport Jefferson Ieunice Usher Davenport, 75, of 314 Clay Drive died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Davenport was a daughter of the late Mose and Bessie Jones Usher and widow of Harrison Jake Davenport. She was a member of Paradise African Methodist Episcopal Church. A native of Marion County, S.C., Mrs. Ellis was a daughter of Edgar P.T. and Martha Gold Collins Dozier, Mullins. She was a graduate of Lander College and earned a master's degree in education. She had been a teacher for 29 years and was a member of Hilton Head First Baptist Church. A native of Morgan County, Mr. Giles was a son of Laurie Thrasher Giles of Watkinsville and the late George Wesley Giles. A graduate of Oconee County High School, he had served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Consolidated Electric Distributors and formerly employed by Fowler Products. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel. Rev. Robert Garrett will officiate. Internment will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery. A native of Chappells, S.C., Mrs. McAlister was a daughter of the late Haskell Leo and Frances Martin Padgett Adams. She was past president of the Medical Wives Auxiliary, a board member of the Guest House, captain of her tennis team, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Gateway House. She attended high school in Chappells, S.C., and was a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina Nursing School, class of 1959. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gainesville. Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 22, 1998, at First UMC of Gainesville. A native of Recovery, Mr. NeSmith was a son of the late William Council and Annie Kimbrell NeSmith. An Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater, he was a graduate of St. Louis College of Embalming, St. Louis. He was a retired funeral director from Gordon-NeSmith-Harrison Funeral Home and a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He was a retired chief magistrate of Wayne County, an active charter member of Jesup Lions Club, a former Jesup City Council member, Wayne County Coroner, a hospital board member, Jaycee and chairman of the Zoning and Planning Commission. He was a member of Sons of the American Revolution, a Mason and a Shriner, and a former member of the school board. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev.
