A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Daniel was a daughter of the late Dan and Cordelia Smith Glenn. She was a member of St. Mary's Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Hoyt Smith officiating. Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Survivors include a daughter, Joe Ann Daniel, Athens; a son, Bobby Daniel, Stone Mountain; a granddaughter raised in the home, Wanda Daniel; a sister, Roberta Barnett, Athens; a brother, Jim Glenn, New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. The family is at the residence and will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home. Mary Hussey Sparta Mary Elizabeth Boyer Hussey, 80, died Monday, April 20, 1998. A native of Sparta, Mrs. Hussey was active in and served as past president of the Hancock County Home Demonstration Home and was a member of Gaissert United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Moores Funeral Home, Milledgeville, with the Revs. George Owens and Mary Porter officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Menderhall, Athens, Barbara Claire Lewis, Conyers, Patricia Hussey, Sparta, and Linda Peacock, Eastman; three sons, L.G. "Doc" Hussey Jr. and William Hussey, both of Sparta, and Marion Hussey, Alamo; a sister, Doris Boyer, Sparta; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The family is at 436 E. Broad St. Jack R. Kinney Braselton Jack R. Kinney, 73, of 225 Pinecrest Lane died Tuesday, April 21, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Kinney was a son of the late Herschel and Margie Cruce Kinney. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Kinney. He was a retired importer and exporter in the poultry industry. He served in World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a member of Zion Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Survivors include a daughter, Robin Kinney, Marietta; a son, William J. Mann Colbert George Herman Mann, 58, of 210 Lakeview Drive died Tuesday, April 21, 1998. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Mann was a son of the late Frank T. and Florena Hall Mann. Richard Mason Auburn Richard "Rick" Mason, 43, of 64 Main St., #5, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998. A native of Los Angeles County, Mr. Mason was a son of the late Richard Dean and Sallie Ferguson Mason. He was a published writer and a member of the Literary Institute of Children's Writings and Gospel Light Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. R.L. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Carl Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the residence and will receive friends 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Martha Melnik Athens Martha Love Barnett Melnick, 75, of 105 Chateau Court died Wednesday, April 22, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Melnik was born July 3, 1922, the daughter of the late Alma Riden Barnett and David Elcoe Barnett Sr. She was the widow of Alexander Melnik and was preceded in death by a sister, Marcile Lanard, a brother, Keith Barnett, Jackson County, and her grandparents, Doss and Clara Brantly Riden, Jackson County and St. Petersburg, Fla. She was retired from the University of Georgia Alumni Society and presently was employed with Trademark Dental Ceramics. She was a member of the Athens Artist Association and Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gordon's Chapel UMC with the Rev. Robert Passmore and Father Richard Kieran officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Hood and Laura Storrs, both of Atlanta; a son, Denis Melnik, Athens; a sister, Sandra Hood, Elberton; a brother, David Barnett Jr., Athens; eight grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Thornton was a son of the late Loyd and Mildred Thornton and was the widower of Carolyn Wheeler Thornton. An Air Force veteran, he was a member of security personnel at Sun Trust Bank and was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, Watkinsville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Bolton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Angelia Michele Strealy, Commerce, Cherie June Thornton, Athens, and Judy Thornton Dawson, Union Point; a son, Jason Eric Thornton, Savannah; four sisters, Dorothy Thornton Casper, Watkinsville, Juanita Thornton Zimmermann, Chicago, Ill., Shirley Thornton Brooks, Athens, and Mary Thornton Zimmerman, Statham; three brothers, James L. Delores Thornton Winterville Ruby Delores Thornton, 55, of 325 Lakeview Drive died Monday, April 20, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Thornton was a daughter of James E. Gray of Winterville and the late Ruby Estelle Busbin. Delores was a lifelong resident of the Athens area and attended Chase Street City School and Athens High, graduating cum laude class of 1960. Delores was a great daughter, a devoted wife and a very loving mother. Delores was a worthy adviser of Rainbow Girls in 1959-1960 and received the Grand Cross of Color. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 269 and served many years as Esther, and served as Worthy Matron from 1969-1970. She was employed with Dairy Pak of Athens in 1960 as payroll clerk, becoming head accountant in 1962, and then Personnel Administrator in 1975. She resigned in 1988 after 27 and 1/2 years of service to work in the family business with her husband, Joe Thornton, J.D.T. Enterprises, D.B.A., Thornton's Fine Jewelry and Thornton's Pawn Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Winterville First Baptist Church. Dr. Rick Standard and the Rev. Paul Hopkins will officiate. Internment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors, in addition to her father include her husband, Joe C. Thornton of Winterville, five children, Joseph Thornton, Deborah Elrod, Chuck Thornton, all of Winterville, Patrick Thornton of Hull, and Christine Lowery of Dayton, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jeff Harrison, Kevin Shumake, Daniel Brugh, Don Sellars, Shawn Ellis and Joseph Thornton. Honorary pallbearers will be Eastern Star Chapter 268, and the Joy Sunday School Class of Winterville First Baptist Church.
